People's Law Office attorney Jan Susler filed an administrative claim this morning on behalf of Ald. Jessie Fuentes. Federal agents handcuffed and threatened her with arrest on October 3rd at Humboldt Park Health.

The incident left Fuentes with injuries to her wrists, shoulders and arms, including bruising and "extreme mental distress, anguish and fear," according to a claim she filed Tuesday.

Today, the Milwaukee Common Council approved a $6.96 million settlement, the second largest wrongful conviction settlement in Milwaukee history.

The Plaintiff in the case, Danny Wilber, was arrested in January of 2004 for a murder that he did not commit, and spent the next 18 years of his life wrongfully imprisoned while he fought to establish his innocence. After his release, lawyers at the PLO brought this lawsuit against the Milwaukee Police Department detectives who conspired to frame him and against the MPD for its systemic practices designed to wrongfully prosecute and convict.
