Today, our Co-Founder and Partner, Chester “Chet” Cameron, Jr., had the honor of speaking at the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association seminar on Section 1983 civil rights litigation and why this work continues to matter now more than ever.

The Indiana Trial Lawyers Association is one of the premier organizations for plaintiff trial attorneys in the state, and it was a privilege for Chet to present alongside many of Indiana’s leading trial lawyers and advocates.

The presentation focused on the role civil rights litigation plays in holding institutions accountable, protecting constitutional rights, and pursuing justice in wrongful conviction, jail death, police misconduct, and jail medical care cases.

We recently finished a jury trial in Marshall County, Iowa, a rural venue where the conventional wisdom is that juries dislike lawsuits and “Chicago lawyers” aren’t welcome.

The offer from defendant’s insurance company: $0.00
Verdict for our client: $450,000.00

We don’t care what kind of case it is or where it needs to be tried; if insurance companies won’t give our clients what they deserve, it’s our job to go take it from them.

We secured a $2.5 million settlement on behalf of our client who was rear-ended by a commercial truck operated by a national transportation company. The crash was caused by inattentive driving and resulted in serious injuries.

Fifteen years.

That’s how long Angel Diaz had his life taken from him by a system that failed him. No amount of money can give those years back—but today, I had the honor of placing a small piece of justice into his hands.

When I delivered that check, it wasn’t about the number. It was about accountability. It was about acknowledging the pain, the time lost, and the resilience it took for Angel to keep fighting when everything was stacked against him.

I also want to recognize Erickson Law—one of the best criminal post-conviction relief teams in the country—who won Angel’s exoneration. It was truly an honor and a pleasure to work alongside them on this case.

In my career, I’ve handled many cases—but this moment stands apart. Standing there with Angel, knowing what he endured and what it took to get here, reminded me exactly why I do this work. This was one of the most meaningful days of my professional life.

We will continue to stand up against abuse of power and fight for those who’ve been wronged—because no one should have their life taken from them without a relentless pursuit of justice to follow.

We recently helped a family resolve a trucking crash case for the maximum policy limits of $4,000,000, before a lawsuit ever had to be filed. Early on, it appeared there was only $2,000,000 in insurance coverage available. After digging deeper, we discovered an additional $2,000,000 policy that applied to the crash. We were able to bring the case to a close quickly and quietly, without putting the family through years of litigation during an already difficult time. Serious injury cases aren’t only about proving fault. They’re about knowing where to look, asking the right questions, and showing insurance companies why a fight is not in their best interest. This is the kind of work we’re proud to do.

We’re honored to be featured in the Chicago Sun-Times regarding approval of a proposed $29.1 million settlement for four men wrongfully convicted due to misconduct by former CPD detective Reynaldo Guevara and Ernest Halvorsen. The proposal includes $6.95 million for our client, Angel Diaz, who spent 15 years in maximum-security prison for a crime he did not commit.

While final approval now rests with the full City Council next week, this moment represents meaningful progress toward accountability after years of wrongful imprisonment and injustice.

These resolutions cannot restore the time that was taken, but they acknowledge the truth and the profound harm caused. We remain proud to stand with our client and committed to pursuing justice for the wrongfully convicted.
