Happy Memorial Day! 🌊🐶 Are you planning to hit the beach with your dog this summer? Here’s what you need to know…
Virginia Beach has specific pet rules in place from Memorial Day through Labor Day to keep public areas safe and clean. Here’s a quick breakdown:
Oceanfront Beach (Rudee Loop to 42nd Street):
🔹 No dogs allowed during summer (Memorial Day through Labor Day)
North End, Sandbridge, and Chesapeake Bay Beaches:
🔹 Dogs are welcome before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m.
🔹 Must be leashed or under the owner’s control at all times.
Boardwalk Access:
🔹 Leashed dogs are allowed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Other important reminders:
🔹 Dogs must remain leashed (or under control) on the boardwalk, sidewalks, streets, and beach.
🔹 Owners must clean up after their pets.
🔹 Dogs must be licensed and current on vaccinations.
🔹 Dog parks are open from sunrise to sunset.
🔹 Off-leash play is generally allowed north of the Ocean Beach Bikeway, but not between the path and the Ocean Beach Pier.
🔹 Service animals are exempt from these restrictions.
