Had a chance to speak with my good friend Nathan Chapman today in the Portsmouth Courthouse. Even while running an active campaign he is still before the Court daily fighting for his clients in the City of Portsmouth. I can think of a couple other attorneys I do not often see in court, but I see Nathan everytime I go to court in Portsmouth.

Represented a young man charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possessing Sch. I/II Narcotics, and possessing a firearm with Sch. I/II Narcotics (which carries mandatory time in prison). After talking to witnesses and having a very serious conversation with the prosecutor, worked out a deal for my client wherein the gun charge was dismissed, the drug possession charge will be dismissed after 100 hours of community service and a year of good behavior, and he pled guilty to the misdemeanor concealed carry charge with no time to serve.

My client avoids becoming a felon and avoids any jail time on what could have been an open and shut case, but I worked to track down every witness possible and instead of going to trial we were able to get the prosecutor to speak to the witnesses and see that the risk of a trial was not in anyone's best interest. I am happy to go to trial, but if my client can win without going to trial that is an even better choice.
