Sometimes the pain doesn’t start at the scene of the accident.

After a crash, adrenaline can be running high, and you may walk away thinking you’re okay. Then hours or even days later, the headache starts. Your neck becomes stiff. You feel dizzy, sore, or simply not like yourself.

Injuries like concussions, whiplash, and even some internal injuries aren’t always obvious right away. That’s why getting checked by a medical professional after an accident can be so important, even when you initially feel fine.

Charlotte’s Left Turn Problem

It’s no surprise that failure to yield is one of the biggest causes of accidents in Charlotte—especially during left-hand turns.

In North Carolina, the law is clear:
- Left-turning drivers must yield to oncoming traffic unless they have a protected green arrow.
- If there’s a solid green light, you can only turn left when it’s safe to do so—oncoming traffic has the right of way.
- Misjudging speed or failing to yield can put you at fault for the accident.

🚗 Do you know which Charlotte freeways are among the most dangerous?

According to crash data cited in our latest blog, I-85, I-77, and I-485 are among the Charlotte area’s most dangerous freeways. In fact, seven of North Carolina’s 10 deadliest 10-mile roadway stretches are located in or near the Charlotte metro area.

One 10-mile stretch of I-85 near Charlotte Douglas International Airport recorded 23 fatal crashes from 2019 to 2023, while a section of I-77 from Wilson Heights toward Huntersville recorded 17 fatal crashes during that same period.

Heavy traffic, high speeds, congestion, and difficult merging areas can all make these roads especially challenging for drivers.
