I keep getting this question so here is the answer.

Q: Is it true ill get 8k per child this year.

A: In previous years, a taxpayer could use $3000 for one child (or $6000 for two or more children) of dependent care expenses to calculate the amount of Dependent Care Credit they could receive. The credit amount is calculated as Expenses x A percentage that varies based on income. This was also a non-refundable credit, meaning it could only be used to offset tax liability. If the taxpayer's tax liability was $500, then they max credit would be $500, even if they qualified for $2000.

For 2021 returns, the amount of expenses eligible to be used increased from $3000/$6000 to $8000/$16000. Also, the credit is refundable for 2021, meaning that any credit in excess of tax liability is refunded to the taxpayer.
