Attorney Dominique Camm breaks down one of North Carolina’s newest traffic laws.

Effective 12/1/2025, if you have window tint (no specificity on percentages), you will be required to roll down your driver’s or passenger’s side window if approached by an officer while in your vehicle. The law does not state how far you must roll down the window, so if possible, roll it down fully.

Failure to adhere could result in criminal charges.

We offer our deepest, heartfelt condolences to everyone mourning the passing of James E. “Fergie” Ferguson, II. We mourn with you. There was, and only ever will be, one Fergie. He is legendary.

His contributions and impact to communities were not just felt in Asheville where he was born and Charlotte where he began practicing, they were felt worldwide. His legacy in the State of North Carolina was untouchable and even spanned across the nation as well as South Africa. In South Africa, Fergie trained those who would later become advocates in the legal system post-Apartheid.

His body of work, his style, his charisma, his art of storytelling, and passion to help his people will not be forgotten and will live on through all of the people, lawyers, judges, whose lives he changed whether through legal advocacy or conversation. We are reading stories written by attorneys from all walks of life. They talk about their moments with Fergie and describe what they learned from him. We share those same sentiments. He was truly a class act. Even the myth of Fergie cannot match the actual man.

In the spirit of Ferguson, Chambers, and Sumter, we, at the Freedmen Law Group, have been honored to study his legacy, emulate the principles of service, and fearlessly aim high to make an impact for those who need us. The titans who went before us live on in our memories and in our commitment to service.
