Catching the fish a different way! I was recently in the Bahamas with my nephew who was hell-bent on catching Mahi on the fly. I thought he was crazy especially when he said he did not want to troll them up or use teasers... we were 20 miles off shore, we spotted a frigate bird and started to follow. We sped up to catch up to the frigate, and when we pulled under the bird the fish were all over the place and the Mahi was gorging itself on the baitfish. He shot me a smile and made cast just like he would on a trout stream and BAM... the fish grabbed the fly.... and took off. The picture below was the first jump.
In our professional world we get caught up in doing things the same way for no good reason. The technology in our industry has caught up, the government wants things done faster, cheaper and safer. But the market is does not make it easier. The NAR settlement has cast a shadow over the entire homebuying process, and nobody knows what to think of it. I don't know what the process will look like in the coming years, but we are ready for anything. Times like this are perfect times to take a chance on a new way doing old tasks.... we have seen automation, technology, and eClosings make the process safer, and smoother.... just like the Mahi: Same result, different way of approaching it....

WHAT DO YOU THINK? The recent $1.8 billion verdict against the National Association of Realtors as raised a bunch of questions in the industry. A federal jury trial found that NAR and two brokerage firms conspired to keep commissions artificially high. While real estate commissions are not going away, this verdict is a step towards more transparency and fair pricing. What do you think about this verdict? What types of changes are you anticipating seeing?

I understand that the government is trying to make housing more affordable, but this seems to have gone over the edge. If looking at pure numbers, and not being a real estate broker it seems as if buyers are going to be paying more for their homes in an effort to bring prices down... makes no sense.

According to Forbes Advisor, mortgage rates have finally come down to 7.03% after reaching a high of 7.79% in October 2023. The same source predicts that the rates will continue to fall in 2024, with the average mortgage rate expected to be 6.8% . Another source, MSN, also reports that mortgage rates could fall more substantially next year if the Federal Reserve decides to cut rates, which is starting to look more likely... How low until we start seeing the market heat up?
