Today we’re recognizing the last day of Aiden’s time with us in our Newton office.

During his semester internship with us, Aiden earned college credit while continuing to excel academically at Lenoir-Rhyne University and previously on the football field.

After graduation, Aiden will be attending law school and we’re excited to see all that he accomplishes next.

We’re grateful for the time he spent with our team and are confident he has a bright future ahead. Wishing him continued success in everything that comes next. 🎓👏

👏 Help us celebrate Katie, our second-year associate at Burts Law!

Since joining our team as a law clerk in 2022, Katie has grown into an accomplished attorney and is now licensed in both North Carolina and South Carolina. She represents clients in civil and employment matters in both state and federal court, advocating for individuals facing discrimination, wrongful termination, retaliation, workplace harassment, and other unlawful treatment.

Katie’s passion for workplace justice was shaped during her time with the EEOC’s Federal Hearings Unit, where she gained firsthand experience in the adjudication of employment discrimination claims. She brings that insight and dedication to every case she handles.

A proud UNC Chapel Hill alum and graduate of Campbell Law School, Katie was a Dean’s Excellence Scholar, co-managed the Campbell Law Innocence Project, and served as a Staff Writer for the Campbell Law Observer.

We’re proud to have Katie on our team and excited to see her continued growth and impact for our clients. 💼⚖️🎉

Disputes can happen in any setting, but they should never escalate to violence.

In this case, our client was wrongly accused of not paying his tab at an uptown Charlotte nightspot. Instead of handling the situation appropriately, a security guard responded by punching him.

Soon after filing suit, the case was resolved for $20,000.

Past results do not guarantee similar outcomes. The result of every case depends on its own facts and applicable law.

Workplace mistreatment often happens behind closed doors.

In this case, a supervisor repeatedly belittled an employee and made light of her seeking mental health treatment.

Because the conduct was documented, the case didn’t come down to one person’s word against another’s. The recordings spoke for themselves, and the matter resolved pre-suit for $135,000.

Documentation matters.

Food allergies aren’t a preference, they’re a safety issue.

Our client warned restaurant of a serious food allergy in advance. Despite that warning, cross-contamination occurred, resulting in an emergency medical situation.

The case was initially dismissed with a $500 offer. After filing suit, it resolved for $50,000.

Accountability matters.

🎉 Trial Momentum → Client Victory! ⚖️

We’re proud to announce a recent win for our client in a breach of contract case — one that we fought hard from start to finish.

After successfully defeating the other side’s attempt to dismiss the case through summary judgment (a legal process where the judge can throw out the case without a trial), we pushed forward to trial fully prepared.

By the time the third witness had testified, it became clear that our case was viable— and the matter was resolved shortly thereafter through a settlement.

💼 Our client came to us seeking justice after being wronged in a contract dispute. We prepared. We litigated. And we delivered results.

If you’re facing a business or contract dispute, let us help you protect your rights.

Major Trial Win ⚖️💼 | Business Protected

Our client was wrongly accused of breaching a commercial lease after relocating when the landlord prohibited necessary upfits to comply with zoning laws.

The plaintiff sought over $126,000.00 in damages—but we pushed back.

After trial began, with a motion for mistrial pending and the court signaling in our favor, the case resolved on extremely favorable terms for our client—a business owner who stood his ground and won.

Proud of the results and the team effort it took to get there:

⚖️ M. Anthony Burts II & Kathryn Roseman – Burts Law, PLLC
⚖️ Justin Ramey – Ramey Law

This outcome is a reminder: when the facts, law, and preparation align—justice follows.
