I am a West Virginia licensed attorney and the owner of Amore Law, PLLC, based in Charles Town, West Virginia. My practice is focused on assisting consumers by protecting their assets, advancing their legal claims and helping them to avoid the harsh and often debilitating consequences of debt. I have been a practicing attorney since 1993. I am currently the NACBA State Chair for West Virginia. I a

m also a chapter 7 panel Trustee in the Northern District of West Virginia. I represent people and small business in all chapters of bankruptcy: 7, 11, 12 & 13. I also handle a wide range of consumer related cases advancing clients’ claims pursuant to the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act, the Fair Debt Collection Procedures Act; Credit Repair Organizations Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. I seek to establish a relationship with each client so as to understand his/her goals and desires and construct a course of action designed to accomplish the intended result. I left a larger firm, Kratovil & Amore, PLLC, in 2011 to form a small solo practice so as to control both the quality and quantity of representation and clients

Something we often forget, both as individuals and as businesses, is to publicly thank the people working behind the scenes who help make our successes possible. We truly couldn’t do what we do without them.

I want to take a moment to thank Liz Cook , Economic Development Coordinator for The City of Charles Town and liaison to Charles Town Now, our Main Street America downtown volunteer organization.

Liz has been absolutely instrumental in helping get Miss Willa’s Bookshop off the ground. From day one, she has been our behind-the-scenes cheerleader, encouraging us, supporting our wild ideas, and helping us bring them to life. From the very inception of the shop to the exciting announcement of the upcoming Booktique Hotel, Liz has stood by us every step of the way.

We’ve only been open for three weeks and have already hosted two major events, with another in the works, and more on the horizon. Liz’s guidance and enthusiasm have been a constant source of strength and motivation.

To some, this might seem like a small thing. But to those of us living and working in this growing, vibrant, and historic small town built around small businesses, it means everything. Having someone like Liz, along with the support of the City of Charles Town and Charles Town Now, makes all the difference.

If you’re local, we hope you’ve felt the joy and community spirit that this organization spreads. And if you’re visiting, we hope our small town leaves a mark on your heart. We’re so happy to be here; and even happier that you’re here with us.

We hope to see you for the Midnight Release Party next month! - Malissa

Amore Law is doing its part to help our pollinator friends with the installation of pollinator gardens. Gone are the landscape plants and mulch! Big plans for the Fall to remove all of the Yew bushes and install more native flowers and trees to shade the rear lot.

Debt settlement/ Loan Modification Companies. Please think twice before using a company that purports to solve your debt problems or try to negotiate a loan modification. They have no more power or right than you have but charge you fees for the benefit of adding little if any help.

Also, Google Map the address of any such company. Often their address is a virtual office, a warehouse does not exist at all. Major red flag!

Speak to an attorney and learn your rights and assess your risks!

I have seen an increase in Debt Collection activity both in intensity and aggressiveness. The hitting of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau by our government means there is no entity protecting your rights. However, State and Federal collection laws still protect you from harassment. Consumer attorneys like myself can help you stop such harassment and enforce the law.
