MaKayla Melvin is a recent graduate of Marian University in Indianapolis, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a minor in Business Marketing. Born and raised in East St. Louis, Illinois, and later making Belleville, Illinois her home, MaKayla brings a strong commitment to public service, professionalism, and effective communication. She is a proud graduate of Belleville West High School and is preparing to continue her academic journey at Eastern Illinois University, where she will pursue a Master’s Degree in Applied Communications with a Concentration in Public Relations.
MaKayla previously served as a Deputy Circuit Clerk, gaining hands-on legal experience within both the Civil Division and Probate Division. In this role, she supported daily court operations by managing filings, maintaining official court records, assisting with case management, and serving as a point of contact for attorneys, judges, and members of the public.
Her exposure to civil litigation and probate proceedings strengthened her understanding of procedural rules, legal documentation, and the importance of accuracy, confidentiality, and timeliness—core competencies essential to paralegal work. By combining her legal experience with advanced graduate training in Applied Communications and Public Relations, MaKayla is developing a skill set uniquely suited for modern legal environments.
