City of Cerritos Government and council have been using the Swim center to 'punish' residents for protesting water rate hike and sales tax hike proposal.
We ask council to STOP this game and FIX the Swim center ASAP. Cut expenses and allocate funds for this in the 2026-27 FY budget which will be approved on Monday, 06/22/26.

On June 13, 2024, the City Council awarded a contract in the amount of $1,134,892 to F.M.Thomas Air Conditioning, Inc. (F.M. Thomas) for the Swim and Fitness Center Rehabilitation
project. However, following contract award, changes in applicable building code requirements required revisions to the approved plans and specifications. As a result, progress has been limited to administrative and design-related tasks. A Notice to Proceed (NTP) has not yet been issued, the contractor has not mobilized, no construction has begun, and the project remains pending, subject to the preparation of building plans and building permit issuance.
While the revised plans were in development, the City experienced a critical failure at the C4 Water Well in October 2025 due to damage to the existing well liner. This failure resulted
in a significant increase in silt and gravel entering the well and sand separator. Due to the urgency of this water system repair, on December 22, 2025, the City Council redirected
funding from the Swim and Fitness Center Rehabilitation project to address the C-4 Water Well emergency repair and to facilitate the purchase of imported water during the repair
period. As a result, the boiler replacement project was deferred due to the reallocation of funds.
At this time, the existing boiler system remains operational, and there is no immediate or emergent need for replacement. While the boiler has exceeded its useful service life, it
continues to provide pool heating for facility operations. Further consideration of boiler replacement will be deferred until replacement becomes necessary. When replacement is
required, this item will be pulled from the consent calendar and more information will be provided for separate City Council consideration.
Public Works staff will continue to monitor the condition and performance of the existing boiler system. If the boiler remains operational and no immediate need for replacement is
identified, no action on this item will be taken.
