Attention all business owners: scammers are hard at work trying to steal from you through your unsuspecting employees. Please protect yourselves better by building redundancy into all processes involving the exchange of funds or cash! NO ONE is EXEMPT!!
Strengthen your IT security and your physical security.
In the last 18 months or so we have had 7 businesses hit so far and they are just getting started.
These scams and scammers are clever and should not be ignored.
TRAIN your staff!! Train your staff and then train them some more regarding what to look for and what TO DO when they are suspicious. The phone is not safe, a certified check is not safe, a business-to-business wire transfer may not be safe.
BE SURE you know where your money is going every day.
Gone are the days when you can allow your business to operate on autopilot. BE VIGILANT or be victimized.
If you are concerned, don't hesitate to call, we may not be able to help, but you won't know if you don't reach out.

Your home and your business need the best video camera surveillance you can buy!!! It will save you money in the long run and perhaps help law enforcement get your property back when someone steals from you. Buy more cameras than you think you need and when you call to report your loss, save the tape. We need it to identify the perpetrators.
Currently, we are experiencing a high rate of burglaries at both homes and businesses. You are not immune. DO NOT PUT THIS OFF!

Last night we concluded a jury trial in the 123rd District court, Judge Rafferty presiding wherein David Creel was convicted for Endangering a child and 2 indictments for retaliation against a public servant.
The jury sentenced him to 2 years on the endangering case, and 10 each on the retaliation charges. All 3 are maximum sentences. We had given notice to the defendant that we would ask the court to cumulate those sentences and the court did so. Mr. Creel will serve each sentence consecutively, one after the other.
I can’t thank the jury enough for their service.
They were patient with us, attentive and efficient.
The Sheriff’s Department was there helping in every way they could and without them and their work, particularly this week, I am convinced our results would have been different.
Thank you to each of you.

I'm looking for a bill to be introduced in the upcoming legislative session which makes aggravated crimes committed by "illegal immigrants" a longggggg sentence to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division; meaning we would first have to prove they had no legal status, no Visa, no green card and then prove the crime itself beyond a reasonable doubt to receive the enhanced punishment. I would like automatic life but that's just me, I'm not sure others are as committed to peace and tranquility as I am, but I sure hope it would be no probation eligibility and would be 15 or 25 to 99. A few of those convictions and things might settle down in Texas.
I would be remiss if I didn't give this disclaimer: enterprising, weak or otherwise not public safety minded prosecutors will find a way to charge around the statute, meaning finding a reduced charge or leaving off the aggravating factors, but most won't.

Early voting began today and will run through March 1 at the Community House on San Augustine St., Center, Texas. Please run by and cast your vote. It does you little good to be American if you don't exercise that most important right. If you don't vote, your opinion is irrelevant, and no one ever wanted to be irrelevant.
While I am unopposed, I would be honored to receive your vote.

I would also ask you to re-elect John L. Price as your County Attorney. We have been blessed that he would do this job. He didn't need to and didn't have to and yet he has poured his heart into it, just like everything else he has ever done. When he had been in the job a few months he said to me, "I finally get why you have been in public service all these years." For those of us who choose to do this work because we believe in it and we want to serve our communities, those words mean so much. What John didn't realize all those years he was in civil trial practice, real estate, personal injury defense, medical malpractice defense, wills and estates, banking and business transactions was he was always a public servant. His heart has always been in the right place, and you need not take my word for it, ask any of his clients, ask any lawyer who has opposed him, worked with him or worked for him. Ask any judge before whom he has appeared. Ask anyone in the county with whom he is currently working.
Most lawyers, me included, have an area or two in which they can say they're accomplished, but that isn't true for John Price. He's good in all the disciplines and that is exactly what his clients will tell you. We thank you for the opportunity to serve and appreciate your vote and support.
John L. Price County Attorney, Republican candidate in the primary, March 5, 2024.

Grand jury met today and with a short docket was finished shortly before noon, returning indictments on about 20 individuals. They will meet in March. We try to meet monthly.
March 19 is jury selection for State v Creel, 2 cases of retaliation and 1 case of child endangerment. It should wrap up Thursday or Friday of that week.
April 22 is jury selection for a dope case and May 20 is jury selection for the next murder case.
In the March and May cases John L. Price, Shelby County Attorney will be taking the expert witnesses. In the April case, I will take the experts and my ADA will be sitting first chair.
I appreciate that John has the expertise with expert witnesses and is willing to help out in these cases. He sat 2nd chair to me in a manslaughter case and a murder case in 2023 and we were able to obtain convictions in both.
We are grateful to be able to serve you and hope to continue doing the same with a new term beginning January 1, 2025. Thank you for your support.

Your Shelby County Attorney, John Price loves to tell the story of coming to Shelby County in 1968 to practice law with Bob Fairchild and Billy Hunt. Billy, from Timpson. Some of you may recall he was the victim of polio as a child and was confined to a wheelchair. He was a brilliant lawyer, a loyal friend, a great storyteller, and a lifelong Republican. Billy also held the distinction of being the Shelby County Republican Party Chairman during that time period. In that first election after John arrived, the Republican Party cast 8 votes in the primary election. At the next election, Billy was ecstatic when they broke their record and voted 12.
I know you all remember what a stir was created when in 1988, seemingly out of the blue, Dallas County flipped from a Democrat County to Republican. From that historic election of 1988, it took about 20 years for Shelby County to flip, but here we are in 2024 and Shelby County is a Republican stronghold. Billy Hunt would be so tickled. Today Democrats are willing to hold their noses and sign up to run on the Republican ticket for the duration of their races.
John is a lifelong Republican voter and supporter. He first met George Herbert Walker Bush while in law school at Baylor and later served as his point of contact in East Texas man when President Bush ran for Senate. He is not a “johnny come lately” Republican.
Bob Fairchild and Billy Hunt valued loyalty, competence, integrity and hard work and they hired John Price because they recognized he shared those values. All these years later, he still does.
Vote to re-elect John L. Price Shelby County Attorney, March 5 in the Republican primary. Thank you.
