Construction on Boulder County's Diagonal Highway bikeway project is scheduled to begin this year. Tragically, the off-street bike path wasn't built in time for Magnus White, who was killed by a driver last July on this stretch of road. Our latest blog covers the design details (including the pros and cons) of the bikeway, which we are eager to use as soon as it is completed.

While it is very easy to become disheartened with our society's view towards cyclists and the complete disregard for human life that so many drivers develop the second they get behind the wheel of a car, there are glimmers of hope. An off-street bike path sandwiched between the north- and south-boun...

Victim blaming happens in all corners of our society. When the media wrongly points a finger at a cyclist for causing a crash, or sugar-coats a driver's abhorrent actions that led to a serious injury or death, it only makes our roads more dangerous. Read more about how and why local media is so frequently incorrect regarding fault in bike vs. car crashes in our latest blog post:

The way that we talk about bike collisions matters. It particularly matters how those with a voice of authority discuss bike collisions, because their opinions, whether they are an individual, government institution, or media company, have the greatest impact on the general population's opinion rega...

As part of the cycling community in Colorado, I’m asking you to consider making a donation to Bicycle Colorado for Colorado Gives Day.
We know you love to ride your bike and we want you to be safe while doing it!
I’ve been involved with Bicycle Colorado as a board member for over 15 years, and we’ve all benefited from the work they’ve accomplished over the past 36 years through the support of donors and members like you.
We have created a special giving page for Colorado Gives Day for the board. As a personal favor, I am asking for your support to help us to meet our board goal of $20,000 and Bicycle Colorado’s goal of $100,000. And, if you give now your donation Bicycle Colorado can benefit from early giving incentives. You can access our giving page in the link below to make your gift today.
Gratefully,
Brad

Vision Zero—the goal of reducing all road injuries and deaths to zero—captured a lot of attention in the early days. But it has since fizzled out in virtually every city in which it was implemented. In our latest blog post, we explore why.

Vision Zero, a road safety program that originated in Sweden in 1995, set out with the long-term goal of achieving zero road fatalities and zero road injuries. Unfortunately, Vision Zero has failed dramatically.

Do you let your kids ride or walk to school? More and more parents aren't allowing their children to walk or ride. Traffic danger is part of it, though in order to be part of the solution, we need to encourage everyone—not just middle aged adults—to bike commute, walk, and use alternative transportation methods. The world isn't tolerating single occupancy vehicles. Just take a look at the weather forecast. Check out our latest blog post:

How many times have you started a sentence with the phrase back when I was a kid. The older we get, the more that phrase tends to come to mind.

The bike lane is for bikes, not Amazon vans, USPS trucks, or overflow contractor parking. Stationary vehicles pose a huge threat to cyclists using the bike lane or shoulder of the road.

When we think of serious bike crashes, a speeding car or truck usually comes to mind. But not every bike vs. car collision involves a fast-moving motor vehicle, or a moving vehicle at all.
