Good article from the WSJ about trying to use trusts and charitable foundations to reduce taxes. "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".

The six criminal counts are a cautionary tale for anyone tempted by far-fetched tax-reduction schemes.

Good article from the WSJ about estate planning for blended families.

Happy Monday!

A few of our clients have suggested that they would be interested in having Randy talk with a group from their child’s school, their workplace, church, neighborhood association, etc. We wanted to reach out to let you know that if you’re in the Denver metro area and can get a group of at least 7 or 8 (or more) Randy is happy to do that at no charge.

We understand that estate planning and probate can sometimes be a little overwhelming. Randy is happy to visit your group to deliver a short (one hour or less), informative presentation and provide personalized guidance on estate planning and/or probate. Randy’s talks are not sales pitches. No scare tactics, or attempts to sell you some “special” type of trust or other document. Just a clear explanation of some basic estate planning and probate questions.

The topics covered during these sessions may include:

Importance of estate planning: Understanding the significance of a well-crafted estate plan and how it can protect your assets, ensure your wishes are honored, and minimize potential family conflict.

Elements of a comprehensive estate plan: Exploring various estate planning components, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and beneficiary designations to create a customized plan that suits individual circumstances.

Tax implications and strategies: Learning about potential tax considerations related to estate planning and discovering strategies to minimize tax burdens for your loved ones.

Legacy planning: Discussing methods to leave a lasting legacy by supporting charitable causes and organizations through estate planning.

Explanation of the Probate Process: How the process works; how to keep it as simple and inexpensive as possible; how to, and whether you should, avoid probate.

Randy’s expertise and experience as a speaker will ensure that attendees gain a clear understanding of the options available and the steps necessary to create a comprehensive estate plan or an efficient probate.

If you are interested in scheduling a visit from Randy, please contact us to discuss date, time, and location. We will do our best to accommodate your request and coordinate with you to create a fun and informative presentation for your group.

Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or to schedule a visit!

When clients use a trust as part of their estate plan they often want a family member as trustee. That's usually not a good idea.

Families are complicated. Family financial planning is even more so. That planning can become particularly intricate and emotionally fraught for high-net-worth families that have a lot at stake.

In case you're wondering, the cover photo is the wing of a de Havilland Beaver on floats that I got a chance to fly in Alaska a number of years ago. The thick rope is for someone on the dock to grab hold of when you pull up, and the thinner, longer rope is a tie down rope. The Beaver may be the coolest airplane I've ever had a chance to fly. Big ol' radial engine rumbles and smokes on start-up,and you can take off pulling and elephant behind you ;) Here's a great article about the Beaver. Havilland Beaver

As the de Havilland Beaver departs the ground, the smile will be on the face of the pilot. Every time you lift off, it seems like a miracle that such a big, heavy plane can get off the ground so quickly, even with a heavy load. By Crista Worthy with Steve Burak
