What’s really happening here? i filmed this today behind a gas station, a family-owned bar, and several local businesses in Pflugerville — where razor wire, high fences, and holding cells have quietly appeared under the label of a “DHS office.”Neighbors were told this would be an office building. Now it looks and feels like a hidden jail — right next to small businesses and a neighborhood — with no clear city or county oversight, no local permits, and no answers from federal officials. Should the federal government be able to drop a detention facility in the middle of our community without local permission or transparency?Watch this and decide for yourself.

Immigrant Initiative:

On Sunday, July 6th, I got a call from Mickael Mayer, an immigrant from France, asking if I’d join him to help with disaster cleanup just west of us along Nameless Road. I had just come back from a trip and had a full week of meetings ahead—so it wasn’t convenient. But I couldn’t say no, still carrying the heartbreak of the Camp Mystic flood and the lives lost there. So I hopped into a car filled with tools—and a few baguettes.

We first tried to volunteer at Round Mountain Baptist Church but were told they couldn’t take more help that night and suggested we check with neighbors instead. So we started knocking on doors along Nameless Road,

Mickael undeterred by long driveways, barking dogs, or the chance a neighbor might come out with a shotgun. The first house said they were fine but pointed us to another. I stayed in the car at one house because of a large barking dog, but Mickael pressed on. When I went to find him, he had already found an elderly couple whose home had flooded and another family whose mobile home had been destroyed.

Mickael didn’t wait for someone to tell him what to do—he just did it. He took some photos and encouraged me to share them online, and that simple spark lit a fire. The post was shared nearly 500 times and seen by hundreds of thousands, bringing attention and volunteers to Sandy Creek when it was needed most
More than five days later, we’re only now seeing larger organized help arrive.

It’s amazing how one determined neighbor—an immigrant with a heart full of love for his community—can remind us what it means to look out for each other.

“Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness. For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves.”— A favorite scripture, and one this Frenchman lives by.

For hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans living in the United States, life has become a roller coaster of uncertainty—hope, dashed hopes, temporary relief, then more anxiety. And now, the Supreme Court’s latest decision has made that ride even more painful.

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to move forward—for now—with its plan to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nearly 350,000 Venezuelans who were granted protection in 2023. TPS has shielded these individuals from deportation and allowed them to work legally in the U.S., recognizing that it is not safe for them to return to a country plagued by authoritarian rule, economic collapse, and political violence.

But with this decision, Venezuelans are once again staring down a legal abyss. No clear answers. No clear timeline. Just the constant question: What happens to us now?

Today on the television news we heard the heartbreaking news of a family in North Austin being deported—including their U.S. citizen children. It’s a painful reminder of how fragile and complex our immigration system can be.

But even on a day like this, there is still good news:
Green card approvals arrived in the mail.
Receipts for long-awaited applications were issued.
Dreams moved forward.
Immigration in the U.S. is still alive.

We continue to fight, support, and stand with every family navigating this journey.

There’s a special kind of satisfaction that comes with a smooth Friday afternoon of family-based immigration.

Today, we celebrated the arrival of a green card, submitted four asylum based work permit applications, filed an H-4 work permit application for the spouse of an H-1B worker, sent out an advance parole application for a DACA recipient to set the client up for adjustment of status, and moved forward on three naturalization applications.

Grateful to support each step of these important processes—and for the trust our clients place in us along the way.
