Griffin & Sears attended the SafeNet Services Garden Party tonight, and we wanted to highlight the work that this incredible organization does within our community, as well as a few of the people who go above and beyond to make this work possible.

If you are not familiar with SafeNet, it is a local shelter serving survivors of domestic violence, and it is one of only four shelters in the state of Oklahoma qualified to serve survivors of human trafficking. SafeNet offers a safe home for women and children escaping violence along with an abundance of wholistic resources to support them.

Unlike other domestic violence shelters we have worked with in our practice, SafeNet takes a uniquely personal, empathetic, and educated approach to interactions with the survivors they encounter. They do not turn away imperfect survivors. They simply identify needs, and they find a way to meet those needs against all odds. They have consistently offered a safe haven to survivors we serve when other shelters refused to help.

Jody Moore is the Executive Director of SafeNet, and she is one of those rare individuals who leads from the heart and makes the impossible possible. Her vision, leadership, and passion for this work has a tremendous impact on our community. Please support her work however you can: https://www.safenetservices.org/donate-now/

SafeNet also manages a protective order advocacy office, free of charge, from the second floor of the Rogers County Courthouse. Jackalyn, in the first photo on the left, is one of the incredible advocates in this office, along with Fondrea, who is not pictured here but who is equally deserving of this recognition. These ladies often serve as the first point of contact for survivors as they navigate our judicial system to seek emergency protection from their abusers.

These ladies calmly and compassionately listen to survivors’ raw, emotional, and traumatic stories, and they assist survivors in drafting and filing petitions for protective orders to ensure those stories are relayed effectively to the Court. They ensure survivors do not face a judge alone. They protect survivors from their abusers at protective order hearings by physically separating them in the hallway as they wait for their case to be called. They sit with pro se survivors in meetings with opposing counsel for additional support.

On one occasion, these ladies went out of their way to privately sequester a particularly nervous mutual client of ours in their office to help her feel more at ease, and they texted us to let us know where she was and that she was okay. We trust this organization to treat survivors with the same level of compassion we do, and our clients report how much comfort these ladies bring them.

We do not have the words to sufficiently express the gratitude we feel for these incredible community partners.
