Please see the update from the U.S. State Department: As of May 21, 2026, all U.S.-bound American citizens and lawful permanent residents (LPRs) who have been present in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan within 21 days of arrival in the United States must only enter through Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) for enhanced screening. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will apply enhanced public health screening at IAD in response to the Ebola outbreak. The Dulles requirement applies to all passengers, including U.S. citizens and LPRs, who were present in those countries. Please be prepared for flight changes or cancellations. PLEASE NOTE THE UPDATE FROM USCIS: USCIS is overhauling its Naturalization Civics Test to ensure that citizenship is reserved for aliens who fully embrace our values and principles as a nation.

As a first step, USCIS is publishing the 2025 Naturalization Civics Test, which will better assess an alien’s understanding of U.S. history, government, and English language.

It’s always nice to be able to share pictures of those that I have helped with the Immigration process. I was able to meet a client in Portugal who is waiting for his spousal visa interview to unite with his wife in the U.S. I am also happy to share pictures of those who became U.S. citizens.

Recently, USCIS announced policy changes for U.S. citizenship. The U.S. government looks at “good moral character” as a requirement for U.S. citizenship. According to a recent USCIS Policy Memorandum, “Evaluating GMC involves more than a cursory mechanical review focused on the absence of wrongdoing. It entails a holistic assessment of an alien’s behavior, adherence to societal norms, and positive contributions that affirmatively demonstrate good moral character.”  I have spoken with clients about this recent update and I have been so encouraged with their contributions to the U.S. Whether it’s a client who teaches Zumba classes for the elderly, or a medical researcher, or a father and husband who works two jobs to provide for his family, or a daughter who is caring for her sick mother or a professional soccer player who shares his skills with young children teaching them the values of teamwork and perseverance, I am encouraged by all the positive contributions you have brought to the U.S. I am thankful for all of you and all the good you bring to your communities, families, and to the U.S.
