On October 19. 2022, a Boyd County Jury found Christopher "Smiley" Nunnally guilty of Assault First Degree and Persistent Felony Offender Second Degree after three days of testimony and thirty three minutes of deliberation. The jury sentenced Nunnally to 38 years. The case was tried by Assistant Commonwealth's Attorneys Gary Conn and Christina Smith.
On May 9, 2019, Nunnally conspired with two other suspects for acid to be thrown on the victim, C.W. The victim has suffered permanent injuries to many parts of her body as a result of this horrific act of domestic violence. Despite her injuries, C.W. survived this act of domestic violence and confronted Nunnally in trial. C.W. won.
October is designated as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Every minute, an average of 20 people are physically abused by a partner. Most victims do not speak out about the violence and live in fear of their abuser each day. Victims do not stay in the violent relationship because they want to stay, victims stay in the relationship because of the fear of the alternative. There are services available. If you, or someone you know, are a victim of domestic violence, please reach out for help! You too can win the battle!
