Judge Woodard was a great judge and an even better human being. Caring, compassionate, and always helping others. We need more judges like him. You are dearly missed, sir.

The Seminole County Bar Association honored the late Judge John L. Woodard III during a June 26 Celebration of Life by presenting his widow, Joanie Woodard, with a framed copy of the U.S. Constitution that will be displayed in a Seminole County courtroom in his memory.

Woodard, who retired from the bench in 2025 and died in April, was widely recognized for his leadership in problem-solving courts, including pioneering work in Seminole County's Drug Court and Veterans Court. The Seminole County Board of County Commissioners recognized his contributions in a proclamation honoring his years of judicial service.

Colleagues remembered Woodard as a compassionate, thoughtful jurist whose commitment to fairness, dignity, and respect left a lasting impact on the legal community and the many individuals who appeared before him. They also praised his dedication to helping veterans and people facing substance use and mental-health challenges through innovative court programs.

As many of you have probably heard, there was a terrible high speed crash in front of our office this afternoon that killed two innocent people who were simply trying to make a turn when they were struck by a fleeing felon. Everyone in the offices is unharmed although there is some damage to the building from debris.

If you have ever made a left into our office across 17-92, you know it is extraordinarily dangerous—speeders in excess of 60 mph, hedges in the median that obscure the view of oncoming high-speed traffic until it is very close, and a city government that was previously warned by us about the danger posed by the combination of factors at this location.

Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to the family of the two people taken so violently and tragically. Please be careful out there.
