When a family member passes away, the bills don't stop. The mortgage, utilities, and insurance still need to be paid, sometimes within days.

With only a will, the executor can't do much until the Clerk of Superior Court issues their paperwork, and the estate usually stays open for months. With a funded revocable living trust, your successor trustee can usually step in right away.

Most of us plan for what happens after we're gone. Fewer of us plan for the years when we're still here but can't manage our own finances, after a stroke, an accident, or dementia.

In North Carolina, if you haven't planned ahead, your family may need to ask the court to appoint a guardian. That means a hearing, a public file, and yearly reports to the court.

A revocable living trust lets someone you trust step in right away, following instructions you wrote yourself.

Anh khách hàng dễ mến gọi nói, "Chị Kim ơi, cái ông LS ở tiểu bang kia mà chị giới thiệu, giá ổng đắt quá, chị giúp tìm thêm một hai người nữa được không?"

Mình nói, "Ok anh, nhưng để tìm LS có giá thân thiện như em thì hơi khó à nha. Nên anh đừng kỳ vọng cao ok."

Hai anh em cười ha hả, xong ảnh nói, "Giá thân thiện, người cũng thân thiện nữa."

Ui, ấm lòng. Cảm ơn anh.

Closing day is exciting. There are a lot of papers to sign, and few people stop to think about the exact words used to put their names on the deed.

Those words matter later. In North Carolina, married couples usually own their home as tenants by the entirety, while unmarried co-buyers default to tenants in common unless the deed says "right of survivorship." Either way, the home can still end up in probate someday.

Putting your home in a revocable living trust, at closing or afterward, is one of the simplest ways to make sure it passes smoothly to the people you love.

Ở North Carolina, là con hay là vợ chồng cũng không tự động được thay người thân lo giấy tờ. Nếu không có giấy ủy quyền, gia đình thường phải ra tòa xin làm người giám hộ.

Chỉ cần ba mẹ ký vài giấy tờ khi còn khỏe, cả nhà sẽ yên tâm hơn nhiều khi chuyện không may xảy ra.
