We’re excited to share a valuable resource to help make estate-related real estate transactions more seamless: the Estate Property Flowchart, a tool jointly approved by the North Carolina Bar Association’s Real Property Section and the NC Association of REALTORS®.
This flowchart is designed to guide you through common questions that often come up during estate property closings, including:
• Was the property jointly owned?
• Is the estate currently open or closed?
• Who should be listed as the seller in agency agreements, disclosures, and contracts?
It also highlights key cautions to keep in mind—such as avoiding the inclusion of a deceased individual on legal documents and ensuring the appropriate involvement of heirs, spouses, and estate representatives.
We encourage you to take a few minutes to review the flowchart and keep it handy for any future transactions involving estate properties.
