Serving looks and serving summons ⚖️✨ I had the pleasure of taking the role of a Process Server today at the Wake County Courthouse in Downtown Raleigh.

A local law firm hired me to serve a Civil Summons and Complaint for the Wake County Superior Court, as they have been getting the run around for two years on a defendant that wouldn't cooperate.

Since the law firm is a party to the action and legally prohibited from serving the documents themselves, they needed a neutral, reliable professional to step in and SERVE 💅

When they reached out to me, the attorney asked "Is this something you do?"

As an entrepreneur, I'm always open to opportunities outside of the scope of notary and apostille services, provided they meet my two non-negotiables:

1. It doesn't put me in harm's way.

2. It must never make me question my integrity.

I arrived at the courthouse early and took a moment to review the photo of the defendant I was provided.

I clocked him immediately as he walked out of the elevators 👀

I approached him, stuck to the script, and delivered the documents.

Thankfully, he signed the Acceptance of Service graciously and then sat nearby where he talked smack loud enough for everyone to hear.

It was awkward as hell to say the least but a memorable experience overall 😅

Three years ago, I launched Fillion Notary & Apostille Services out of pure necessity. I was looking for a side hustle because we were drowning.

The woman who started this journey was trapped in fight or flight, exhausted, broke, and had zero friends.

Today, this milestone is about so much more than a business anniversary. It’s a celebration of a total internal transformation 🦋

I’ve traded my loneliness for a community that has healed me, and my inner critic for a quiet, unwavering intuition.

I am a completely different person from the woman who signed her first document with shaky hands and a racing heart.

You wouldn't believe the piping hot tea we receive during our intake calls and appointments for notary and apostille services. Then again...
..this IS a professional platform, so I'm sure you can relate to the "over-sharing."

Those seeking our services are often under the impression that they must give us the full cinematic backstory and "lore" of their document 🎥🎞️

While we appreciate the context, a Notary Public is primarily concerned with these 5 essentials:

💠 WHO: Who is signing and are they of sound mind?

💠 WHAT: What type of document are we handling?

💠 WHEN: When would you like to book?

💠 WHERE: Where is the signing taking place?

💠 WHY: Are you signing of your own free will?

The "Why" is the most important part. We don’t actually need the "why" of the situation, we need to confirm the intent.

Our job is to ensure that no one is being coerced and that the signing is a voluntary act, all while obtaining satisfactory evidence that the principal signer is exactly who they claim to be.

I'm sure we've all been there with the over-sharers, but I guarantee I win with the piping hot tea I received during an appointment that started with a separation agreement...

Infidelity. Ring Cam. Wife Swap. Multiple appointments that involved multiple signers 👀

“Mo Money, Mo Problems." 🪙💰 is what my business coach told me early on, before I was cracking $2k in monthly revenue. Well, it’s time to put my big girl pants on for 2026.

In January, we expanded our team to offer comprehensive statewide signing coordination, specifically designed for complex estate planning and real estate documents…

…and I’ve been questioning if this is the right fit for me.

The notary “gurus” spoon feed the newer notaries on how good loan signing is…meanwhile, title companies and signing services geared towards real estate closings are sending out $45 refi’s...
..but I’ll save that rant for another day 😅

I’ve coordinated a handful of signings in rural areas, and the expertise for estate planning and real estate is even lower.

I took for granted how easily I picked up on notary services and document ex*****on.

🦄 I’m a beast when it comes to organization, attention to detail, and a quick witted brain that can yap endlessly and process information at a rapid rate.

Getting ready for an insanely busy day. We will be executing 5 appointments and coordinating a mortgage refinance with our trusted notary partner Kristen Ray.

When I say "we" I actually mean "me" lol 🥹

I prepped all of these binders by printing, assembling, and double checking all of the pages to ensure there are no blemishes, everything was printed, and all dates and notary block information is correct.

The burgundy folder has atleast 500 pages in it, including a 100 page trust for a couples full trust estate plan.

I'm honored to take this off the plates of our solo estate planning attorney clients and that they trust me to execute these for their clients.

I'm excited to be able to share the wealth and abundance with other high-quality notaries such as Kristen, and to be able to trust her to execute her refi flawlessly as well.

It takes a village and I'm incredibly grateful for this business and community 🙏

The best part about running your own business is that you don’t have to ask permission to live your life.

🙅🏼‍♀️ No "requesting" time off for a doctor's appointment.
🙅🏼‍♀️ No checking if it's okay to attend events for your kids.
🙅🏼‍♀️ No performance reviews to tell you what your worth is.

Entrepreneurship is often sold as a "hustle" with 80 hour work weeks.

Yes, the work can be difficult and there are days I want to get into the fetal position and cry my eyes out 🥹🥲😭

But the real luxury isn't the money.

It's the freedom and autonomy.

When you own the business:

✨ You define the schedule
✨ You choose the "who"
✨ You own the results!

I get to work on my own terms as a notary entrepreneur.

The transition from "employee" to "owner and founder" is a mental shift from seeking permission to taking responsibility.

Once you taste the freedom, it's hard to go back.

I DID IT! I'm closing out 2025 with a grateful heart and a major WIN! 🏆

In January, I boldly set a goal to hit $100k in revenue for 2025.

January also happened to be my lowest month of revenue, which made me think I was crazy as hell for committing to such an abundant goal 🫨

⏩ Fast forward to December, and that crazy number is now my REALITY!

This year sparked a powerful mindset shift deep within me 🧠✨

I learned to identify limiting beliefs that were holding me back and stopped allowing fear to dictate my decisions.

I didn't get here alone.
