A common question we've seen in the group recently
“What immigration status do I put on my renewal?”

This is a bit tricky since deferred action is not an option when you complete the renewal online.

For online renewals, many applicants currently select NLS (No Lawful Status).
For paper filings, you have a blank space so many people write or type in "DACA."

⚠️ Immigration forms can be confusing, and small mistakes may create delays or issues later. Always review your application carefully before submitting.

If you need our assistance with your DACA renewal or understanding your options, our office is here to help.

On May 21, 2026, USCIS issued a new memo about Adjustment of Status, the process some people use to apply for a green card from inside the United States. The memo emphasizes that this type of case is discretionary, meaning officers may look beyond basic eligibility and consider the full picture before making a decision.

This does not mean Adjustment of Status is gone. But it does mean that case preparation matters even more than before. How a case is documented, explained, and supported can make a real difference.

It is also important to stay calm. News like this can create a lot of fear, and many immigration attorneys are already raising legal concerns about it. More updates, and possibly legal fights over this policy, may still come.

For now, the message is: do not panic, but do take preparation seriously.

Locking up at 5 on a Saturday 🔐 In immigration law, things can change quickly, so we keep showing up, building solid cases, and making sure our clients' rights are protected at every stage. Today was a full one: consultations, legal memos, consular cases progressing, and the best news- a client just picked up her passport stamped with permanent residency 🛂💚 Grateful for the reminder of why this work matters.

⚠️ DACA & Advance Parole Update - May 22, 2026
USCIS says DACA renewals are taking about 3.5 months but there's a catch. This data is based on the past 6 months, which means the real wait time is likely longer. We're hearing from people waiting 5–6 months with no decision yet.
If your DACA expires in the next 6–7 months, file NOW if you are eligible . Don't wait.
As for Advance Parole, processing is sitting at 22 months, and there are reports it may be paused altogether.
If AP is part of your immigration plan, it may be time to rethink your strategy. Every case is different, and timing matters more than ever right now.

One of the most common questions we hear is: “How long will my case take?”

For many marriage-based Adjustment of Status cases in the Los Angeles area, the process is currently taking about 12 months, but every case is different. Some move faster, while others take longer because of requests for documents, prior immigration history, or eligibility issues.

The good news is that understanding the process can help you prepare better and avoid unnecessary delays. Read our full article here: https://www.rayconradlaw.com/post/howlongdoesamarriage-basedgreencardtakeinlosangeles

Did you know the USCIS backlog has more than tripled in the last decade?
Delays aren't random. They're a growing problem that affects real people waiting for green cards, work permits, citizenship, and more.
When the backlog grows, so does the hardship:
❌ No work authorization for those that qualify
❌ Uncertainty about your status
❌ Months (or years) without answers
Here's what we know: the backlog got significantly worse in 2020–2021 and hasn't fully recovered. Every year you wait to start your case could mean more time in line.
✅ The best way to avoid unnecessary delays? Start your case with an experienced attorney who knows how to file it right the first time.
Don't wait for the backlog to shrink; take control of your case now.

Big change for USCIS interviews starting May 18, 2026. If you or someone you know has an interview coming up, here's what to know. 👇

A USCIS interview is an official part of the immigration process, not just a conversation. Starting May 18th, attorneys who attend must be physically present; remote appearance will no longer be allowed at most interviews.

Having an attorney present can help ensure the law is applied correctly, flag questions or requests that go beyond what is appropriate, and protect your rights during the interview.

This is especially important for cases involving prior filings or denials, immigration history, arrests, inconsistencies, or complex family-based circumstances.

This Mother’s Day, we want to recognize the mothers who do so much behind the scenes for their families.
We see that strength.
We honor that sacrifice.
And we know that for many mothers, immigration is about much more than documents. It is about family, security, and peace of mind.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers and mother figures in our community. 💙
