A RARE MID-CENTURY FOX POINT HOME DESIGNED BY A PROTÉGÉ OF FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT JUST HIT THE MARKET with floor-to-ceiling windows, an art studio and a unique architectural history.
-Williamson is best known for working as a draftsman and site supervisor under Frank Lloyd Wright in the early 1900s, taking significant inspiration from his style. But since Wright was overseas in Japan during much of this period, experts debate whether Williamson had a larger hand in the architect’s projects than he was given credit for.
-He also worked on Wright’s failed American System-Built Homes project in Milwaukee, before the two fell out and Williamson formed his own practice in 1918.
-The home, tucked away on a winding tree-covered lot along North Lake Drive, was built in 1940 and designed by renowned architect Russell Bar Williamson. Spanning 2,100 square feet with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, it was listed for $799,000 on Aug. 12.
•What makes this home stand out?
The Lake Drive home marks Williamson’s transition between two of the 20th century’s most famous architectural styles. It maintains Prairie School hallmarks like the centrally located, double-sided fireplace, while incorporating an open floor plan and floor-to-ceiling windows that would come to define midcentury modern homes
-Its most striking features are the two massive double-paned living room windows, each 24 feet tall. Standing on the front steps, one can peer through the living room and into the forested backyard.
-The interior features oak millwork, hand hewn ceiling beams and Moravian Tile Works floor tiling. Curved doors open to art studio space warmed by a gas-fired Lannon stone fireplace.

ROGERS PARK'S HISTORIC 400 THEATER IS REOPENING FRIDAY, JULY 31, 2026, under new owner Jordan Stancil. Located at 6740 N. Sheridan Road in Chicago, the revived local cinema will feature updated projection technology, reserved seating, and affordable ticket prices.
-Jordan Stancil, the new owner of The 400 Theater in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood, said he wants to make moviegoing as accessible as buying a cup of coffee. “I think this is one of these really beautiful, simple parts of life,” Stancil said. “I think that this is going to be a good era for moviegoing,” he said.
-Before signing the five-year lease last November, Stancil conducted an informal canvass of the neighborhood: asking people he passed on the street if they knew about The 400 Theater. It didn’t take long to glean how much the space means to nearby residents, even if it’s not the type of venue that has oversized reclining chairs or upscale concessions.
-“The commitment to the theater in the neighborhood is really strong,” Stancil said. “People want The 400 to remain a theater.”
-And Stancil is eager to reopen the somewhat-scrappy neighborhood theater, which is why he’ll start showing movies, even before many of his planned updates are underway.
“This isn’t something where we’re going to remodel for a year without being open,” Stancil said. “I think we need to start interacting with the community; we want to be a living part of the neighborhood, and you can only do that by being open.”
-Plus, he said matter-of-factly: “Rent is due on the first of every month.”
“Sometimes people say, ‘Who’s the investor?’ Well, the investors are the people that buy tickets week after week,” he said. “This is a bootstrap kind of thing.”
-One week before opening, the space on Sheridan Road is a hub of activity: Two men are troubleshooting audio in one of the theaters, another is working on the bathrooms and a team outside is inspecting the light-up sign. Down the main hallway, there are movie posters advertising “Barbie” and “Blue Beetle” — some of the last titles shown in this space before it closed.
-In terms of upgrades, Stancil is starting with the basics: Focusing first on improving the visual and audio side of the operation. On opening day, the plan is for two of the four theaters to be up and running, showing the summer blockbuster, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” and the R-rated “I Want Your Sex,” starring Olivia Wilde.
-“I think the first thing for me is to just present the movie in the best possible way that we can do in these rooms that we have,” Stancil said. “Then I think the next step will be improving the amenities like seating.”
-Jordan Stancil, the new owner of Chicago’s 400 Theater in Rogers Park, was raised in the movie business.
-His great-grandfather started a small empire of theaters in northern Michigan. As a teenager growing up in Grayling, Michigan, Stancil made popcorn and took tickets at The Rialto, which was then the last surviving cinema in the family’s portfolio.

MORE AMERICANS LIVE WITH FAMILY AS HOUSING COSTS SOAR: A report, out May 5, 2026, from Realtor.com, estimates there are 4 million multigenerational households, representing 4.5% of all owner-occupied households, as of 2024. That’s up a bit from a 4.3% share in 2019, before the pandemic.
-The report defines “multigenerational houses” as properties whose descriptions include keywords such as “guest house,” “in-law suite” or “granny-flat.
-As the cost of living – and housing – surges, Americans are increasingly opting to live with other generations of their family. As Emmons’ clients show, there’s a caregiver convenience factor at work. It also stands to reason that cutting down on travel expenses saves money.

1010 South Wells Rises Above Street Level At Riverline In Chicago's South Loop. (Pictured: The first phase of Riverline rises above grade along the South Branch.)
-Work on the podium levels for 1010 South Wells is ramping up for the 21-story, 388-unit first phase of the Riverline development in the South Loop. General contractor Brandts Build and concrete contractor Goebel Forming are working on the second level of the three-story podium now, which will hold approximately 180 parking stalls and 2,900 square feet of retail space.
-A renovation/alteration permit hit the Chicago Data Portal on April 20 for the tower. Its language states a “revision to full building permit and associated site work as revised 22-story residential apartment building.” So let’s see if one additional floor has indeed been added to the plan once that permit becomes official and the tower tops out.

"The unexamined life is not worth living" is a famous dictum attributed to Socrates, recorded in Plato's Apology as ὁ δὲ ἀνεξέταστος βίος οὐ βιωτὸς ἀν. It asserts that a life lacking self-reflection, critical thinking, and questioning of one's beliefs is not truly fulfilling, often cited as a plea for pursuing wisdom and moral growth.
Socrates allegedly made this statement during his trial (399 BC).
-It implies that simply existing is not enough; a meaningful life requires active introspection and seeking self-understanding and implies that for Socrates, a life without intellectual and moral self-reflection is a wasted life.

BROTHERS PLEAD GUILTY TO PAYING OFF OAKBROOK TERRACE, IL, MAYOR IN RED-LIGHT CAMERA SCHEME:
The stepsons of a deceased mob-connected business owner have pleaded guilty to participating in a red-light camera kickback scheme that funneled thousands in cash payments to the then-mayor of Oakbrook Terrace in exchange for a lucrative cut of ticket proceeds.
-James Colucci, 56, of Lisle, and Joseph Colucci, 51, of Mokena, each pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Friday to one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States, court records show. Sentencing guidelines call for up to about three years in prison for each defendant.
-U.S. District Judge Martha Pacold has not set a sentencing date. Attorneys for the brothers did not respond to messages seeking comment.
-The guilty pleas mark the latest — and perhaps the last — convictions stemming from a sweeping federal investigation into bribes and kickbacks involving red-light cameras installed by SafeSpeed LLC, which generates millions of dollars in fines from motorists each year in nearly two dozen Chicago suburbs
-The guilty pleas also scuttled a potentially fascinating trial that had been scheduled for later this year and would have featured the testimony of former Oakbrook Terrace Mayor Tony Ragucci, who admitted to starting the kickback scheme with the Colucci brothers’ stepfather, Dennis Colucci, a onetime associate of notorious Outfit hit man Harry Aleman.
-Ragucci was expected to testify about accepting envelopes filled with cash from Dennis Colucci in his office and later from the brothers after lunch meetings at Chicago-area steakhouses like Gibsons, court records show.
-“Hi T … Are you still good at 1 @ Gibs?” Joseph Colucci texted Ragucci before one meeting at Gibsons in February 2019, court records show. After Ragucci responded, “Yes,” Colucci texted “Cool …. see you there.”
-Ragucci also met frequently with SafeSpeed co-founder Omar Maani, who began secretly cooperating with the FBI and recorded a July 2018 meeting where Ragucci asked for additional cash each time he re-upped the village’s contract with the camera company, according to a recent prosecution filing.
