In 1948, Saskatchewan farmer Cecil George Harris became part of one of the most unusual will stories in legal history. After a farming accident, he scratched a brief message onto his tractor fender leaving “all to the wife.” The fender was later accepted by the Saskatchewan court as a valid holographic will.
While the story is remarkable, it also highlights the importance of working with estate planning professionals. Even though the court accepted the tractor fender as a valid will, relying on last-minute instructions can create uncertainty, delays, and costly legal disputes. A comprehensive estate plan helps ensure your wishes are clearly documented & reduces the burden on your loved ones.
