What a lawyer needs to say:

Although the court reporter, as awesome and skilled as she is, may be able to write “uh-huh” or “uh-uh,” neither the reporter nor myself may be certain as to specifically which one you are indicating, since you are not enunciating, have gum in your mouth, speak with an accent, magnified Southern drawl, et cetera. So will you please answer ”yes” or “no”?
A. Uh-huh.
