BEWARE - SCAM RE: "FAILURE TO REPORT FOR JURY DUTY"

Numerous residents of **Cumberland County have reported incidents which point to a rise in scam calls regarding jury duty attendance. The scammers claim to be calling on behalf of the Sheriff’s office to notify people that they missed their jury duty date. In some cases, these callers have gone as far as threatening citizens with misdemeanors or felony charges if they refuse to pay a fee and “resolve” the issue. If you receive any of these calls, contact the Sheriff’s office at 717-240-6390 for verification and assistance.

**This scam does not appear to be limited to Cumberland County, as our office received a call from a Berks County client last week, reporting a similar phone call. The Berks County Sheriff's Office advised us that the local scammers there have actually met victims at the Courthouse and carried out the pretense!

CARING FOR CAREGIVERS

Pennsylvania just unveiled a program to support its 1.5 million unpaid caregivers: the PA CareKit. Launched by the Department of Aging, this new resource is packed with tailored guides, respite care connections, and essential tools designed to ease the burden on everyone from spouses to grandparents raising grandkids. As part of the state’s decade long “Aging Our Way, PA” initiative, the CareKit was shaped by caregivers themselves. With one in four Pennsylvanians already over 60, the need for caregivers, and for ways to support them, continues to increase. Free print kits will be available at libraries and senior centers, helping caregivers provide compassionate care without sacrificing their well-being.
