SC Supreme Court holds confidential adoption records can be opened when they are relevant to a case. In this matter, the adopted child who sexually abused our client foster children had a history of sexually acting out with other children and DSS was aware of it.

“None [of the prior cases] consider whether a trial court's determination that DSS's files and records are discoverable under the Rules of Civil Procedure constitutes good cause under subsection 63-9-780(C) [The Adoption Confidentiality Statute]. We now hold that it does.”
