Headline: 🚨 URGENT SCAM ALERT: "The Zoom Link Trap" targeting Agents
I wanted to share a specific scam I just encountered to keep everyone’s data safe. This is a highly sophisticated phishing attempt currently targeting agents via Zillow and website contact forms.
The Setup:
The Persona: A "potential buyer" (recently using the name "Garvin Kernstine") claims to be out of state (e.g., North Carolina).
The Hook: They insist on a Zoom call immediately, using their "wife's absence" or traveling status as an excuse.
The Trap: They refuse to join your link and insist on sending you their Zoom invitation link.
The Danger:
These links are NOT real Zoom meetings. Clicking them can instantly download malware, install keyloggers to steal your MLS/banking passwords, or lead to a fake login page designed to harvest your credentials.
Red Flags I Noticed:
Authenticated but Fake: The emails come from "genuine" Gmail accounts (passing SPF/DKIM) to bypass spam filters.
Artificial Urgency: Pushing to meet "right now" without providing a specific property address or pre-approval.
Refusal of In-Person: They will ghost you if you suggest meeting at your office or using your own secure link.
How to stay safe:
ALWAYS host the meeting. Never click a link sent by a stranger.
Trust your gut. If they won’t give a spouse's name or answer basic local questions, it’s a bot or a scammer.
Report it. Mark these emails as "Phishing" in Gmail to help the filters learn.
