Seeds of Health: Tenor High School

Back-to-school at Tenor High School’s Journal Square campus! Berghammer recently completed the third-floor renovations (total of 6,215 SF), which transformed the former Journal-Sentinel newspaper location into a classroom, science labs, restrooms, common areas and a dedicated senior seminar space where 12th-grade students can meet and work together.

This is our latest project with Seeds Of Health, continuing a relationship that has spanned more than 20 years. We’re so honored to help create spaces that support learning and connection for students and staff!

SPECIAL PROJECTS SPOTLIGHT: Carroll University

Our Special Projects Division was recently at Carroll University’s Campus Center to replace two 25+ year-old coolers in the PIT dining area.

We worked in conjunction with Lee Mechanical to remove the acoustical ceiling. Lee removed the existing coolers and installed new coolers with new condensing units on the roof, and then the ceilings were patched back in, the quarry tile floor was patched, and a new vinyl base was installed around the bottom perimeter of the coolers.

It’s a good example of how our process works – coordinating with the right trade partner, considering the surrounding finishes, and completing the project from removal to installation of new, more efficient equipment.

From equipment replacements to renovations and facility upgrades, our Special Projects team tackles the projects that keep campus facilities running smoothly!

PRECONSTRUCTION: Senior Living

For a current senior living project, our team is working through the complexities of adding 30 new units, renovating 20 existing units, relocating major utilities, and phasing construction so residents can continue calling the community home throughout the process.

We tend to share a lot of high-impact images of our construction projects, but sometimes it’s the behind-the-scenes preconstruction work that is the most critical. That can look like, team members meeting to test ideas and approaches, taking another look at plans to tackle a tough problem, and asking questions, such as:

- "What happens if we move this utility?"
- "Can residents still access this wing during construction?"
- "How do we build this addition while keeping the parking lot accessible for staff?

Projects like this can take months to years of pre-planning and budgeting before any dirt is moved, and we are thankful that our client and partners involve us early in the process. This early involvement sets a strong foundation for the successful completion of the project.

Our Social Squad team recently volunteered at the Hunger Task Force Farm in Franklin, helping harvest vegetables to be distributed to local food banks throughout our community.

In three hours, we harvested 1,760 lbs. of cabbage and 1,144 lbs of summer squash. That produce was picked up on Friday and has been a part of people’s meals throughout the city over the last week.

We are so honored to help support the Hunger Task Force mission, which is to help feed children, families, and older adults in need of food support in Southeastern Wisconsin.

The Farm relies entirely on donations to support their year-round efforts. Please consider making a donation!

PROJECT SITE VISIT-Pritchard Park Apartments

Project team members took a recent tour of the ongoing Pritchard Park Apartment development in the City of Racine. A total of five apartment buildings will round out this 266-unit community, along with a clubhouse, underground parking garages, and more. It’s great to get a close-up view of the progress as the Pritchard Park Apartments continue to take shape!

GROUNDBREAKING 🎉
We joined HKS Holdings, City of Sheboygan officials, project partners, and community members to celebrate the official kick-off of construction for Riverview District, a new residential development in Sheboygan!

Projects of this scale don't happen overnight. They are built on years of planning, collaboration, and trust. We're grateful to HKS Holdings for bringing Berghammer in early to the planning process, allowing our team to work alongside AG Architecture, Inc., our engineering and trade partners, and the City of Sheboygan to establish a strong foundation for a successful project before construction even begins.

As Tiffany May shared, "Today we celebrate not only the construction ahead, but also the spirit of collaboration and partnership that has brought us here."

As general contractor, we're excited to get construction underway on more than 280 apartment homes and bringing this vision to life for the Sheboygan community!

HOW IT WORKS – SETTING COLUMNS

We captured overhead views at St. Stanislaus in Milwaukee of the crane setting nine new steel columns into the basement, which will carry the new rooftop terrace once the building is completed. This is a highly technical operation, requiring extensive field verification of the eccentricities of the existing walls and floors, and then adjustments to 27 points of attachment, while at the same time, maintaining perfect alignment with the new building addition structure in progress. We’re working on an eventual three-story addition for the church along with ongoing carpentry and restoration.
