The less said about my golf game the better, but the cause for it last Friday was an excellent one that is near & dear to me. The Sara Rose Memorial Golf Tournament has for the past 5 years raised funds to support the victims of domestic violence, most specifically the 3 young children of Sara Rose ( Fletcher) Pierce, who was murdered by her husband 5 years ago this November. Sara Rose was my goddaughter for her 30 years of life and I have and will continue to participate & support this memorial tournament no matter how bad my golf game gets. And a big thank you shout out to the trio who rounded out the 4-some sponsored by Carey Injury Law - my brother, Chris Carey, his son, Colin, and nephew Trevor Book. It was an enjoyable & valuable day in Spencerport, NY.

This court result is enough to cue up another run of Alicia Keyes' "Empire State of Mind" to celebrate & not just for our NBA champion Knicks on the court.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Donald Trump’s appeal of a jury verdict finding him liable for sexually abusing and defaming E. Jean Carroll, leaving intact a $5 million judgment against him. With this ruling, SCOTUS decides to protect one of the largest corporations in the world at the expense & health of the country's populace. My mother, who lived her life without another identifiable vice or health risk, grew up on a farm & died at 70 of Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, first diagnosed at the age of 46.

Thursday’s 7-2 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court found the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act expressly preempted claims that Monsanto failed to warn about the risk that glyphosate could cause non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

“This decision is good for American farmers who help feed the world,” Bayer CEO Bill Anderson said in a statement.

Co-class counsel Chris Seeger of Seeger Weiss LLP in New Jersey decried the decision.

“This Supreme Court ruling wrongly slams the courthouse door on Americans sickened by pesticides, and underscores why we negotiated a $7.25 billion settlement that guarantees compensation to Roundup victims regardless of today's decision,” Seeger in a statement.

Some plaintiffs' lawyers say the ruling doesn't impact design defect or negligence claims against Monsanto in Roundup cases.

It is true that most personal injury & wrongful death cases settle either before or at trial. But how cases settle & for how much is directly related to whether your attorney has a track record for regularly taking cases -- particularly difficult cases -- to trial & jury verdict and winning them at a high percentage. It's common sense. Insurance companies will pay the most in a settlement to the attorneys they know will reject a lowball offer & take their client's case to a jury of their peers.

As a personal injury trial attorney for now 30 years, I will always say that trial attorneys are only as successful as their next trial because past results don't guarantee future results and the present client's case is the only one they have & only one that matters. That's absolutely true, but it's also true that past results do assure better & more fair settlement offers for my clients to consider & potentially accept.

At Carey Injury Law, clients can have the best of both worlds in civil litigation -- more favorable settlement offers to consider & an attorney who is ready, willing and able to try your case to verdict with a successful track record for winning your case.

In 2025, I was awarded Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Western Region Affiliate (WRA) of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA), the largest group of personal injury trial attorneys in Western New York and New York State. I was a finalist for the same award in 2024.

I would like to be in the running for the award again in 2026, but I have not had a scheduled trial actually go forward because the insurance companies have been paying my clients settlements that they justifiably can't refuse.

This track record has allowed my law firm to continue representing seriously injured clients that have been referred to me by other attorneys and from past or present clients.

So, if you have a serious injury case, choosing the attorney or law firm to advocate on your behalf is a very important decision that can have enormous benefit or consequences.

Don't rely on catchy advertising jingles or rhymes or easy to remember phone numbers.

If it's serious, call Carey Injury Law, where your case will be prepared from Day 1 for the trial of your life, because it just may be.

April 2026 was a month to both celebrate an important milestone & to begin writing an exciting new chapter. Last weekend, The Carey Firm LLC celebrated its 20 year anniversary with a terrific dinner & evening at Black & Blue steakhouse, hosted by the firm's loyal and much relied upon one and only CPA accountant, Andrea Demaioribus. In addition to Andrea, the original startup team of senior trial attorney Shawn Carey and senior paralegal Karen Turner were joined by Grand Island office paralegal Michelle Wing, associate attorney Jeremy Trudell, new law clerk Zoe Seniuk and office manager Denise Carey (not pictured to take picture). Valued team members, associate attorney Jessica Stickl Asbach, and medical records analyst Seth Carey, were both out of state but celebrated the night remotely.

While not in attendance, all of TCF's clients over the past two decades were collectively toasted, cheered, celebrated, appreciated and remembered. Seeking real and meaningful justice for each of these clients in their serious personal injury claims has been The Carey Firm's passion, purpose and power source that has driven all of the successes in and out of the courtroom that we were so grateful and honored to celebrate.

This spring has also marked a new beginning & legal transformation of The Carey Firm LLC to Carey Injury Law, PLLC.

The name change was made in step with our expansion from our long-time main office on Grand Island to a much larger space in the historic Ellicott Square Building at 295 Main Street, Suite 900, in downtown Buffalo. Barely two blocks from the courthouses where we have forged a valuable reputation as skilled, hard-working & compassionate trial advocates, this move will facilitate, improve & enhance our work for our clients in the primary courthouses of Western New York.

To continue to provide convenient and accessible service to our Grand Island, Niagara Falls and Northtowns clients, we have also opened a new satellite office at 1763 Baseline Road, Suite 108, on Grand Island in close proximity to two GI Exits from the I-190.

Carey Injury Law will also continue a satellite office in downtown Rochester, where Rochester native Shawn Carey has successfully represented 100s of clients in his 30 years as a civil trial attorney since graduating from the University of Buffalo Law School in 1996.

It is with great gratitude, and a necessary blend of pride, humility, continued dedication and dogged perseverance for the great calling of serious personal injury advocacy that we celebrate all that The Carey Firm has been & meant to our team & our clients since opening for business in April 2006.

Finally, it is with great appreciation for this past and equal excitement and continued & energized passion & compassion for our clients that we move on into a bright & promising future as Carey Injury Law.
