All good things must come to an end. I have truly enjoyed my time in private practice. Defending the citizen accused of a crime is a tough job (some cases tougher than others). But guiding clients through a tough situation has been enjoyable.

I am looking forward to the next step in my career. Having been a prosecutor, a job I also loved, as well as a defense attorney, I am excited to bring my experience to the bench as Judge of the 361st District Court of Brazos County effective tomorrow at 10am.

Thank you to my family for supporting and being patient with a trial attorney. Thank you to my staff, current and former, for helping me be successful. I could not have done this without you. Thank you to my clients for trusting me to help you.

On this Independence Day, it's important to understand the reason we celebrate the holiday. What does Independence mean? More specifically, what did it mean in 1776? This is a great day to stop and read the text of the Declaration of Independence linked below.

We are not a perfect nation, but we are the most perfect. Eleven years after the Declaration of Independence was signed, our forefathers wrote in the preamble to our Constitution, "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

We have to continue be better as individuals, and as a nation. But we are still the most perfect, and strive to be even more perfect.

Got a great result for a client last week. He thanked me by bringing a gift of steaks and basket of VERY fresh vegetables. Getting a great result can pay off!
