Subject: Important Message on Immigration Rights Amidst Threats of Mass Deportation
Dear Fellow Immigrants:
I hope this message finds you well. In light of recent statements and threats of mass deportation by former President Trump, I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of being prepared, informed, and resilient during this time.
As an immigration lawyer of sixteen (16) years, I urge all of you to take the following steps:
Know Your Rights: Familiarize yourself with your legal rights. Remember that you have the right to remain silent and the right to speak to a lawyer if approached by immigration authorities. You have constitutional rights protected by the US Constitution.
Seek Accurate Information: There is a great deal of misinformation circulating. Make sure you are getting your information from reliable sources, such as trusted immigration lawyers, verified community organizations, and credible news outlets.
Consult with an Immigration Lawyer: If you or a loved one have questions about your status, pending applications, or concerns about potential raids, do not wait to seek advice. Taking proactive steps can make all the difference.
Build a Safety Plan: This can include ensuring your family members know who to call in an emergency, keeping important documents accessible, and preparing any necessary legal papers.
During these challenging times, it is crucial that we stand together as a community. We must not let fear divide us but use it as a reason to strengthen our resolve and our bonds of support. You are not alone, and we are stronger together.
Please share this message with your family and friends. I am here to support and guide you through these times.
With solidarity and commitment,
Elaine Antonio Bordeaux
