$6.5 MILLION SETTLEMENT — AFTER ELEVEN YEARS, THEY FINALLY PAID.
Georgaklis & Mallas PLLC is proud to announce a $6,500,000 settlement obtained by Kostantinos "Gus" Mallas on behalf of a construction safety inspector who fell approximately six feet through an unsecured piece of plywood at a New York City subway station construction site.
He was photographing a fall hazard when the "walkway" under him turned out to be loose formwork left in the path by the contractors. Six feet down. Nine surgeries. Total and permanent disability. Career over.
For more than eleven years the owner and general contractor said his injuries were "degenerative," that he could go back to work, and that the fall was his own fault. We answered every argument with evidence, and we kept answering until they paid.

🏛️ VERDICT: $1.525 Million against the NYC Transit Authority
Proud to share a trial win by our associate Barlet Lucaj.
Our client was walking down a Brooklyn subway stairway when he slipped on vomit left on the steps and shattered his ankle — an injury that took multiple surgeries to repair. The Transit Authority's defense was the usual one: we didn't know it was there.
We proved otherwise. The hazard was old and dried with no fresh odor — it had been sitting there for a long time. And the station's own cleaner showed up already carrying a cone, which he placed right where the vomit was.
The result, in a bifurcated trial:
→ First jury: TA 100% liable, no comparative fault on our client
→ Second jury: $1.525 million
