Survivors Law Project Sister law firms & BFFs teaming up to fight s*xual abusers under New York's Adult Survivors Act. The trailblazing law firms of C.A.

Goldberg and Crumiller are teaming up to take on s*xual abusers under New York's Adult Survivors Act. Starting November 24, 2022, the ASA provides a one-year "lookback window" for survivors to sue their abuser in civil court, no matter how long ago the abuser took place. Carrie Goldberg and Susan Crumiller are survivors, law firm owners and BFFs who understand the complexities of s*xual abuse and

the trauma it carries. Carrie and Susan each started their firms because they faced a problem in their own lives that they wanted to help others solve. Carrie’s abusive ex used technology to threaten her privacy and security; today, her firm fights Big Tech to make the internet safer for us all. Susan’s ex-boss tried to screw her out of her maternity leave, and now her firm advances feminism and racial equality in both employment and healthcare. These areas coalesce with the passage of laws like the Adult Survivors Act, and they are proud to combine the power of the two powerhouse firms they built side-by-side.

We filed a s*xual assault lawsuit against David Ratner, the renowned s*xual harassment lawyer who once famously took on Bill O'Reilly.

Despite his public presence as a plaintiffs' litigator, behind the scenes Ratner s*xually harassed and assaulted a young associate named Kalisha Crawford on multiple occasions between 2010-2011, the lawsuit alleges.

After she made it clear that she would not submit to his repeated advances, she says he removed her from cases and emails, and ultimately fired her in a blatant act of retaliation.

We are so proud of Kalisha for her decision to speak out and hold her former boss accountable under the Adult Survivors Act.

“For years, I lived with the difficult truth that Ratner had successfully avoided all accountability for his s*xual abuse," Kalisha said in a statement.

"At the time, my only choice was to get over it and move on, even though his actions derailed my life and career. But now Ratner will finally have to face what he did. And whatever the outcome, if I can help empower even one other s*xual harassment survivor to come forward, then this will have been worth it to me.”

Thank you Emily Saul of New York Law Journal for speaking with us about this important case.

Ratner, now a partner at California-based Ratner Molineaux, has secured hundreds of millions in verdicts and settlements as a plaintiffs lawyer for s*xual assault and harassment cases.

NY Court System Must Face S*x Abuse Cover-Up Claims. - Law360

"U.S. Magistrate Judge Leslie G. Foschio's decision effectively allows former judicial secretary Rebecca Klymn to demand documents and testimony in her civil rights lawsuit, finding that she plausibly alleged a cover-up stretching back to 2005 and allowing her to add battery and emotional abuse claims via the newly enacted Adult Survivors Act. The act allows those s*xually assaulted or abused as adults at any time to file civil suits during a one-year lookback window that opened on Nov. 24."

The New York state court system will face conspiracy claims by a longtime employee who says officials protected a judge who r***d and abused her for years, a federal judge ruled Tuesday, clearing the way for her to seek evidence of an attempt to silence her.

Our co-founder Susan Crumiller sat down with Rolling Stone to explain why Steven Tyler's defense in a child s*x abuse lawsuit is, ahem, "f*cking insane."

“There is no such thing as immunity to a caregiver or guardian for s*x abuse. I don’t have the words to describe how crazy it is.”

The plaintiff, Julia Misley, alleged that Tyler met her backstage at a concert in 1973 and proceeded to engage in s*xual acts with her while she was a minor. The following year, Tyler convinced the plaintiff's mother to hand over legal guardianship to him, after which he continued to travel with her, assault her, and supply her with drugs and alcohol.

Tyler responded to the lawsuit with 24 boilerplate affirmative defenses, including that he had "immunity or qualified immunity" because he was her legal guardian.

Susan told Rolling Stone that she's "baffled" by Tyler's immunity argument, which has no legal basis.

Misley sued under California's Child Victims Act, which temporarily opened a lookback window for victims whose claims of child s*x abuse had reached the statute of limitations. That window is now closed.

New York opened a similar window for adult victims under the Adult Survivors Act, which remains open through November 23, 2023.
