Last week, a federal judge dismissed a DOJ lawsuit against Minnesota's sanctuary city policies, ruling that the Tenth Amendment prohibits the federal government from forcing local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration laws. The decision represents a significant victory for local jurisdictions, finding that the federal government does not have total control over state resources. Read this article to learn more:

Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court voted to uphold the right to birthright citizenship, as established by the 14th Amendment. Barbara, the birthright-citizenship case that dominated headlines this term, was emblematic of how the court can be predictable in closely followed cases while still leaving room for surprises. Many observers, including me, expected the court to reject the Trump admin...

The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the Trump administration’s request to end the temporary protected status for Haitian and Syrian immigrants. This attack on humanitarian immigration relief will impact the lives of over a million immigrants, who, due to crisis in their home countries, were previously permitted by the law to live and work within the United States.

More than a million immigrants face possible deportation if they can’t get other legal status in the U.S.

Starting January 1st, 2026, Minnesota is introducing a new law that will provide payment and job protections for the majority of Minnesota employees, including temporary and most seasonal workers. Applicants can have up to twelve weeks of partial pay granted to them in the case of required medical or family leave. This includes things from having a child and taking care of vulnerable family members to recovering from surgery or intermittent chronic conditions. For more information, see the official page here:

Minnesota Paid Leave helps you be there when it matters. Because no matter who you are-a friend, a neighbor, a spouse or a family member-we all need time to take care of ourselves and the ones we love.
