March's winter storm caused quite a concern for many that use plowing services in our area. This caused many local residents to look at having their own options to clear snow in the event of big storms. I did a breakdown of the most common ways to clear snow in the Evergreen and Conifer area.

While incredibly delicate, calypso orchids are also apparently incredibly resilient. Where we normally have close to a hundred of them on our property we had only about half that many this year. The two late and deep snow events kept many of the individuals from flowering...our big cluster came through.

If you know where to find these in the forest...there's still a chance to check them out.

Inversion days are the best in the foothills! We often sit up in this island of sunshine surrounded by clouds that lap up and over the nearby peaks. Today you can see the opposing directions the clouds were moving.

The annual peak of the Geminid Meteor shower is an incredible sight. I like to set the camera out in the cold and leave it to do it's work. This year I caught about 50 meteors in roughly 3 hours. Buried in there was something really cool...meteor smoke. Occasionally a big meteor will dig deeper into the atmosphere and actually leave a visible trail of smoke behind for a few minutes.

This meteor burned the color of almost the full sepctrum as it entered the atmosphere. Likely a wayward Geminid Meteor. If you get the settings just right you can really pull color out of the trails of a meteor.

Comet NEOWISE tracking over Evergreen with a few meteors and satellites. If you look REALLY closely you can see the ion trail just above the dust trail.
