Be careful. In the frenzy to admit a loved one, a serious mistake can take place. I have litigated this issue on several occasions. Sometimes I have been able to defeat the nursing homes attempt to enforce the arbitration agreement, but on occasion when the agreement was knowingly entered into by the family, there was nothing I could do. At that point court was not an option and the parties had to litigate in a private court which was not best for the family. Simple...refuse to sign when your loved one enters the facility. ⚖️ ALERT! NURSING HOME CASE FILED — BRISTOL, VIRGINIA
Our firm is representing the plaintiff in Estate of Hubbard v. NHC Healthcare Bristol, a case involving allegations concerning the care provided to a resident following hip surgery.
According to the allegations in the case, Mr. Hubbard entered NHC Healthcare Bristol for rehabilitation after suffering a broken hip. Within just days of his admission, he began exhibiting signs and symptoms consistent with internal bleeding.
The lawsuit alleges that these warning signs were not appropriately recognized and acted upon by the facility's staff.
The plaintiff further alleges that the failure to timely respond allowed the internal bleeding to progress until Mr. Hubbard suffered a massive bleed and died.
An expert reviewing the case has opined that there was a failure to appropriately act upon symptoms indicating internal bleeding following surgery.
These are allegations made in pending litigation and have not yet been determined by a court or jury.
Cases like this demonstrate why families should pay close attention when a loved one experiences a sudden or unexplained decline while receiving nursing home or rehabilitation care.
At LARGELAW, we investigate nursing home neglect, medical malpractice, serious injury, and wrongful death cases throughout Virginia and Tennessee.

A Pressure Sore Can Be a Warning Sign of Nursing Home Neglect
Pressure sores—also called bedsores or pressure injuries—can develop when a nursing home resident remains in the same position for too long, placing prolonged pressure on the skin and underlying tissue.
Residents who are unable to reposition themselves depend on nursing home staff for proper care. Prevention may require:
• Regular turning and repositioning
• Frequent skin assessments
• Keeping skin clean and dry
• Proper nutrition and hydration
• Pressure-relieving mattresses and cushions
• Prompt treatment when redness or skin breakdown first appears
When these basic precautions are not provided, a small area of redness can progress into a deep and painful wound, sometimes extending into muscle or even bone. Serious pressure injuries can lead to infection, hospitalization, and other life-threatening complications.
Families should ask questions when a loved one develops a serious pressure sore—particularly when they were never told that the wound was developing.
At LargeLaw, we investigate how the injury happened, whether proper preventive care was provided, and whether understaffing or other failures contributed to the resident's condition.
