Wow just wow.
Travis Hunter has been playing football like he’s starring in his own highlight reel, a living, breathing phenomenon on the field. Yet somehow, despite all the jaw-dropping plays and undeniable stats, it feels like college football is looking for every excuse to hold him back. It’s almost as if the system doesn’t know how to handle a player this electrifying, someone rewriting what it means to be a two-way star. But why? Why is the conversation around him filled with “buts” and “ifs” instead of unreserved admiration?
Hunter’s name has been whispered in the Heisman conversations all season, louder with every game. The numbers speak for themselves: 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns on offense, paired with 31 tackles, 11 deflected passes, and four interceptions on defense. He’s not just good—he’s generational. And yet, the Jim Thorpe Award snub was a slap in the face. How does the most impactful two-way player in college football not even get a nomination for the nation’s top defensive back?
Former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson isn’t buying it either. On the latest episode of *All Facts No Brakes*, Johnson pulled no punches:
“They’ll have the Heisman Trophy winner in Travis Hunter, who didn’t even get the Thorpe. He should have the Thorpe, the Biletnikoff, and the Heisman all on his shelf at home. But it’s like they don’t want to give him everything. They don’t want it to be a clean sweep.”
It’s not just Keyshawn who feels this way. Even Coach Prime, Deion Sanders, can’t fathom the hate his star player receives. After Hunter’s three-touchdown performance against Oklahoma, Coach Prime declared, “Travis clinched the Heisman today.” And honestly, he’s not wrong.
Hunter’s dominance has silenced critics and even overshadowed other incredible Heisman contenders like Ashton Jeanty. Despite Jeanty’s monster 226-yard game against Oregon State, Hunter’s odds for the Heisman haven’t budged. The kid keeps proving that nothing—injuries, doubters, or biased systems—can derail him.
So here’s the question burning in every college football fan’s mind: If Travis Hunter isn’t the perfect embodiment of the Heisman spirit—dominance, resilience, and electrifying play—then who is? Because love him or hate him, Hunter has made one thing abundantly clear: you can try to slow him down, but you can’t stop him.
