As we enjoy the long weekend, a little history behind the holiday:

Labor Day has its roots in the labor movement of the late 1800s, when workers were advocating for better working conditions, fair wages, and reasonable working hours. The first Labor Day celebration was held in New York City on September 5, 1882, when thousands of workers gathered for a parade and picnic.

The holiday became a federal holiday in 1894, when President Grover Cleveland signed it into law.

Today, Labor Day is often thought of as the unofficial end of summer—but it’s also a day to recognize the contributions of the American workforce and the many people whose work keeps our communities, businesses, and families moving forward.

So whether you're working, traveling, relaxing, grilling, or simply enjoying a day off, we hope you have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

August is national Make-A-Will Month — the perfect reminder to take care of one of the most important documents you'll ever sign.

Creating a will isn't just about deciding who receives your belongings. It's about protecting the people you love, making your wishes known, and giving your family guidance during a difficult time.

If you've been putting it off, make this the month you finally get it done. Schedule an appointment to ensure your will is legally valid and tailored to your family's needs. Don't leave important decisions to chance. A little planning today can provide peace of mind for years to come.

✅ Make the call.
✅ Meet with an attorney.
✅ Check "Create a Will" off your to-do list.

Your loved ones will thank you.

It has been five years since my first Florida Voluntary Bars conference. Meeting the Florida Association for Women Lawyers ladies from other chapters was the best experience. Very inspiring!

Throwback Thursday! 📸✨

We're taking it back to July 2021, when our then-President, Whitney Glaser of Whitney Glaser Law , attended the Florida Voluntary BarsLeaders Conference in Orlando on behalf of Manatee FAWL.

The conference brought together bar leaders from across Florida to share ideas, strengthen leadership, and build relationships that continue to benefit our legal community today. Opportunities like these help us grow as leaders and bring fresh perspectives back to our chapter.

We're grateful for the dedicated volunteers who have represented Manatee FAWL over the years and helped shape the organization we are today.

💙 Do you have a favorite Manatee FAWL memory or throwback photo? We'd love to see it! Share it in the comments or tag us for a chance to be featured in a future
post.

When a storm is on the way, the last thing you want to be searching for is your important paperwork.

Before hurricane season gets busy, gather and safeguard copies of:

📄 Birth certificates and IDs
📄 Insurance policies
📄 Property deeds, leases, and mortgages
📄 Wills, trusts, and power of attorney documents

Many of these records are available through our office. Visit www.ManateeClerk.com or use our mobile app to view or order certified copies.

Estate Planning Is More Than Paperwork

People often assume they are hiring an attorney simply to prepare documents.

In reality, much of my work involves helping clients navigate difficult conversations and decisions:

• Which child should serve as personal representative?
• Does a trust make sense?
• How can I treat my children fairly if their circumstances are different?
• Who should make medical decisions for me?
• What happens if a beneficiary has special needs?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer.

My job is to help you think through these issues, explain your options, and make the process easy and comfortable.

You don't have to do it alone.

You Don't Need to Have Everything Figured Out

"I know I need an estate plan, but I don't know what I want."

I hear that all the time.

Estate planning isn't a test, and there are no perfect answers. Many decisions involve balancing competing concerns and thinking about situations most of us would rather avoid.

My role is to help clients:

✔️ Understand their options
✔️ Think through difficult decisions
✔️ Consider family dynamics
✔️ Ask the questions they may not have thought to ask
✔️ Create a plan that works for them

Most clients are surprised by how easy and comfortable the process can be.

One of the things I value most as an attorney is the ability to help people when they need it most. Recently, a gentleman with a time-sensitive estate planning matter contacted several larger firms. He was told appointments were months away, or that his matter wasn't substantial enough to fit their practice. Then he happened to see my sign and stopped by my office. I listened to his concerns, understood the urgency, and made his matter a priority. Less than a week later, his estate planning documents were drafted, reviewed, and signed, giving him peace of mind during a difficult time.
