Anyone owing child support debt should arrange payment now with the relevant state child support enforcement agency to prevent passport revocation. 🔥 BURN BAN UPDATE MAY 8, 2026 🔥

The Mecklenburg County burn ban remains in effect at this time.

While we have received some much-needed rainfall over the last couple of days, conditions are still not where they need to be for us to safely lift the burn ban. Vegetation is only beginning to green back up, and many areas remain dry enough for fires to spread quickly.

We understand that many residents are anxious to resume outdoor burning, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this period. Our goal is to ensure conditions are truly safe before allowing open burning to resume.

Additional rain is forecasted for this weekend, and Emergency Services, along with our public safety partners, will reevaluate conditions again next week.

Until then, the burn ban remains in place.

Thank you for helping us keep Mecklenburg County safe.

⚠️SCAM ALERT⚠️

Folks, please don't fall for these. It appears just about everyone has gotten it today. The courts or law enforcement will NEVER contact you over a text telling you to pay a fine.

Unfortunately, scammers like this are usually not in the country and it's almost impossible to get your money back once you send it. They rely on aggressive scare tactics like "active enforcement status" and "final notice".

Please educate your friends, family, and neighbors about these types of scams and let them know to ignore them. If there is ever any question about the authenticity of something you've received, please contact our department or your local department for advice or verification.

Mecklenburg County Personal Property and Real Estate tax bills are on the way! These taxes are due by June 5th. To pay your bill, you can:
- come by the Treasurer's Office at 311 Washington Street, Boydton.
- call our automated phone line at (855)748-3306.
- pay online at mecklenburgva.com.
- use our dropbox located outside of our office at 311 Washington Street, Boydton. Our dropbox is available 24 hrs/day.
- mail your tax payment to P.O. Box 250, Boydton, VA 23917 using the enclosed envelope.
**If you choose to mail your tax payment, it must be postmarked on or before the due date to avoid penalty/interest. Please be aware that the Post Office now postmarks mail when it is processed, not when it is dropped off at the post office. We suggest having your tax payment hand stamped at the post office when you mail it or asking for a certificate of mailing.

April 30, 2026 Update:

🔥 Burn Ban Still in Effect 🔥

Although we’ve had some recent rain, including a good soaking last night, conditions are still not safe for outdoor burning.

The burn ban that went into effect on April 7 remains in place at this time.

Even with rainfall, vegetation and ground fuels remain dry beneath the surface and can quickly become hazardous again.

We are continuing to monitor conditions and the drought index. As soon as it’s safe to resume outdoor burning, we will notify the public.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep our community safe.
