Divorce can be good for your health... who knew?

I didn’t divorce my husband because I didn’t love him. I divorced my husband because I loved myself more.

Despite popular opinion that divorce rates would jump as a result of the pandemic.....

Some divorce lawyers and relationship experts said that the uncertainty of the pandemic and financial concerns are two reasons couples are staying together.

A SPRING 2020 ESTATE PLANNING UPDATE
For Our Clients and Colleagues

As we become accustomed to the “New Normal” occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic, we can begin now to return to our former paradigms for working with our valued clients to address their estate planning needs. We expect within the coming weeks to transition from working exclusively remotely to being able to schedule meetings in our office to discuss planning considerations and to execute documents which we have previously prepared for our clients. It is our intention to institute sufficient protections to make certain everyone involved in these meetings feels sufficiently safe and comfortable to participate.

For clients who prefer for our interaction to remain virtual, we will continue to communicate by telephone, video conferencing, and emails. We will also continue to utilize remote notarization so long as it remains available under the provisions of the recent emergency Massachusetts legislation.

However, our strong preference is to meet with our clients in person to discuss the sensitive issues inherent in the estate planning process. We look forward to hearing from clients and their advisors to schedule consultations and appointments for the ex*****on of estate planning documents.

Among other issues for discussion, we welcome the opportunity to explore the effect of the pandemic on philanthropic planning, recent developments in planning for retirement accounts under the CARES Act, and estate planning techniques tailored to a low interest environment.

We sincerely hope you are well and staying safe, and we remain grateful that our Schmidt & Federico team and their families have remained healthy. We pledge to continue to adapt to the changing demands on our profession as we maintain our commitment to you.

Sincerely,

Mary H. Schmidt ([email protected])

Interesting decision on an issue that is confronted in most divorces, often in the boilerplate section of a divorce agreement...

A ruling in Massachusetts finds that involuntary nondisparagement orders, commonly used to keep spouses from discussing their cases on social media, are unconstitutional.

Divorce attorneys are seeing a surge in divorce inquiries as couples navigate the coronavirus quarantine.

03/20/2020

Due to the coronavirus COVID 19 pandemic, the IRS is extending the deadline for tax payments for individuals and corporations.

This extension includes payments due April 15th with returns for 2019 and also estimated quarterly tax payments for 2020 which would have been due on April 15th.
You still have to file your return (even without payment) or file a request for an extension by April 15th. However, you just don’t need to pay any tax due by April 15th.

To get the automatic 6-month extension of the deadline for filing a federal income tax return, Form 4868 must be filed by April 15th.

Happy Divorce Day!

Today, January 6th - the first working Monday of the year - has become colloquially known as "Divorce Day," when
search engines see a surge of inquiries and family lawyers file many complaints for divorce.

Today, 6 January 2020 has been dubbed 'divorce day,' due to the increase in couples filing for divorce, and instigating splits.
