There’s something about growing up in a small Northeast Texas town that’s hard to explain unless you’ve lived it.
This is my Papa. He was born and raised right here in Windom, Texas, and our family’s roots here go back generations. I wanted to sit down with him and hear what life was like growing up here, how much this little town has changed, and what it means to him to see his grandkids and great-grandkids building their lives here too.
But this story is especially personal to me.
A few years ago, I had the opportunity to buy his grandmother’s house — the same house that I spent so much of my own childhood in. Now I get to raise my babies inside those same walls, in the same little town, surrounded by so much of the same family history.
And I don’t take that for granted.
There’s something really special about watching your kids make memories in a place that already holds so many of your own. The older I get, the more I realize what a blessing it is to have roots somewhere — to know the stories, the people, the land, and the generations that came before you.
Windom may just look like a tiny dot on the map to most people, but to me, it holds generations of my family’s story.
And now, I get to watch the next generation grow up here too. 🤍
