Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend. It is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms we are blessed to have.

As we gather with family and friends, may we also take a moment to remember the heroes who never made it home.

April Fools’ Day is for harmless jokes — not for thinking estate planning is only for the wealthy.

Estate planning is not just for people with millions of dollars or a long list of assets. It is for everyone over the age of 18. Once you become a legal adult, it is important to have a plan in place for both death and incapacity.

Estate planning is about more than who gets your money or property. It is about making sure the right people can step in if you are unable to make financial or medical decisions for yourself. Documents like a durable power of attorney, designation of health care surrogate, will, and trust can help protect you and make things easier for the people you love.

Without a plan, your family may be left dealing with uncertainty, delays, court involvement, and difficult decisions during an already stressful time.

So while April Fools’ Day is all about jokes, this is one thing you do not want to leave to chance.
Thinking you are “too young” or “do not have enough assets” for estate planning may be the real April Fools’ joke.

Being someone’s boyfriend, girlfriend, or even fiancé does not automatically give them inheritance rights in Florida. No matter how long you have been together or whether you are planning a wedding, being engaged is not the same as being legally married. That means if you want your partner to inherit from you, your wishes need to be clearly put in writing through a proper estate plan.
