Another round of scattered to widespread showers and storms is expected today. The US National Weather Service Tallahassee is monitoring a loosely organized complex of showers and storms moving in from the west this morning, with activity expected to track inland and northeast through the day.

Calhoun County is included in a Level 1 of 5 Marginal Risk for severe storms.

Potential hazards include:
βœ… Isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph
βœ… Small hail possible
βœ… Heavy rain and lightning with stronger storms

Severe weather remains a bit uncertain, but a few stronger storms could develop this morning into the afternoon. Please stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Wildfires can start easily and spread quickly, especially during dry or windy conditions. Calhoun County Emergency Management encourages everyone to follow wildfire prevention and mitigation tips recommended by the Florida Forest Service and the U.S. Forest Service:

βœ… Never leave campfires, grills, or outdoor burns unattended
βœ… Make sure all fires are completely out before leaving
βœ… Properly dispose of ci******es β€” never throw them on the ground
βœ… Keep grass mowed, leaves cleared, and debris removed from around your home
βœ… Create defensible space by maintaining at least 30 feet between your home and trees, shrubs, or tall grass
βœ… Keep vehicles, mowers, and outdoor equipment properly maintained to prevent sparks

Disaster preparedness is a year-round activity, and begins with individual households. One way you can get your household ready is to Build A Bucket with essential items and copies of important documents. A 5 gallon bucket with a water tight lid is a great place to start, but any waterproof plastic container will do.

Whole community preparedness begins with individuals. Do your part to ensure Calhoun County is disaster ready!
