Walleye season is here! Let's get to know this Pennsylvania fish!

It's nicknamed the Susquehanna Salmon and has been called "yellow pike" and even "pickerel." All these are wrong. It's neither a pike cousin nor salmon. It's the biggest, toothiest member of the perch family.

The name walleye refers to the fish's large, milky eye that looks luminous when light is shined on it.

Walleyes have a long, roundish body, a forked tail and sharp canine teeth in their jaws.
They vary in color, ranging from bluish gray to olive-brown to golden-yellow. Their side scales may be flecked with gold.

A reminder that Pennsylvania’s spring turkey season begins tomorrow (May 2) and will run through May 30.

Those in the woods during hunting seasons should use precaution.

Please note, while there is no requirement for hunters to wear fluorescent orange during the spring turkey season, wearing it is recommended while moving.

We hope all that take to Penn’s Woods be seen and be safe!
