I am delighted and honored to be appointed recently to the Board of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) !

As part of the board, I am co-chairing the fundraising committee and assigned to the practice group development committee as a board liaison. I’m very excited! I’ve already been through Board Orientation and our first Board Meeting of the year (over two days and covering multiple time zones)!

I’ve been involved with IACP at a committee level for years, and this Board appointment just increases what I’ll be able to do for this global organization that I love being a part of. This appointment will also deepen my relationships with people from around the world who are like-minded.

Joining IACP was one of the best professional decisions I’ve ever made. I learn so much from my colleagues around the world, and get a front-row seat to see how other people are practicing or resolving conflict. Every encounter is an opportunity just to learn more and become better at what I do.

I hope you’ll get outside today, and celebrate Earth Day!

I talk all the time about the importance of self-care while going through a divorce. (Well, anytime, really!)

It’s important for entrepreneurs, also. Getting outside is an easy reset when you’re mired in busy workdays and client concerns.

Today, I’d like to feel the sun on my face and feel the fresh air, even if just for a few minutes!

April is Financial Literacy Month, a great time to get to know your assets.

Whenever a client comes to Transitions Legal in search of divorce representation, that’s the first thing I advise: make a list of your financial and property assets. Know what you have, and know where to find it.

Since I’ve changed the focus of my law firm this year to only offer out-of-court paths to divorce like Collaborative Divorce and Mediation, this is even more important because knowledge is power!!

In Collaborative Divorce, there is a divorce financial professional on the team, which makes it even easier for a divorcing couple to have all the necessary information to make wise decisions for their future post-divorce.

Some of the divorce financial professionals I love working with include Alicia Schonberger & Lyle Schonberger, Upstream Investment Partners , Carrie Cole, Jacqueline Roessler CDFA and Melissa Fradenburg. I am grateful for these talented colleagues who bring so much added value to my knowledge base and to my clients!

We are full on into Divorce with Respect Week, a nationwide initiative to promote processes for divorce that encourage respect between divorcing parties.

I love that this is an effort that is catching on across our country! Especially in times of immense division, many of us practicing Collaborative Divorce and Mediation are heartened at the growing trend to see, hear and listen well in divorce proceedings.

I brought Divorce with Respect Week to Michigan last year, and this year, more people are joining the charge, including Kendal Rojas, CDFA®, of Center Street Wealth Strategies, and Divorce Financial Planner Alicia Schonberger, CFP®/CDFA, from Lylac Divorce Solution.

Plus, many municipalities are signing proclamations to recognize this important initiative.
