💀🎃 IT’S TIME TO ANNOUNCE OUR OCTOBER “MY FAVORITE THINGS” WINNER! 🎃💀

If you know me, you know I LOVE Halloween — and I may have a slight obsession with my 12-foot Home Depot skeletons. Yes, skeletons…plural. I have two. 😂

So naturally, one of my favorite things had to become this month’s client giveaway!

A huge congratulations to Tapestry Park Apartments in Birmingham, our October winner! They’ll be getting a 12-foot skeleton of their very own just in time for Halloween. 💀🧡

Our My Favorite Things giveaways are simply a fun way for us to say thank you to the wonderful clients who trust our firm throughout the year. We truly appreciate your business and the relationships we’ve built with each of you.

Congratulations, Tapestry Park! We can’t wait to see where you put him. 👀💀🎃

We’ve been a little quiet here lately, but it’s time to change that! 💙

I thought the perfect way to get our page active again was to share one of my favorite traditions at the firm — My Favorite Things.

For more than a year now, I’ve been doing a monthly drawing and surprising one of our clients with something that happens to be one of my favorite things. It’s just a small way for me to say thank you to the clients who trust me and my firm throughout the year.

This month’s favorite is one I absolutely love — the Skylight Calendar. It helps keep my life organized, and with back-to-school time here, I thought it was the perfect gift for keeping up with work, school, activities and everything else life throws at us!

And congratulations to our July winner, Vaughn Lakes Apartments in Montgomery! 🎉

We’re looking forward to being a little more active here again — and sharing more of what’s happening at the firm, helpful information, and of course, more of My Favorite Things. 💙

I am deeply saddened to share that our legal effort to stop the Heritage Plantation HOA Board's plan to eradicate the neighborhood geese was unsuccessful today.

My clients went to court to be a voice for the voiceless. Unfortunately, the law often prioritizes rigid definitions over moral obligations, and the court ruled that the imminent harm to the geese was not enough to satisfy the legal definition of "irreparable harm" to our clients.

While the HOA Board may view this as a legal victory, it is a moral failure. They have won the right to proceed with killing these geese, but they cannot erase the fact that their community stood up and said, "Not in our name."

But make no mistake: this does not absolve the HOA Board.
We fought the good fight. We gave everything we had to protect these beautiful animals. The Board may have "won" in a courtroom today, but they have to live with the reality of what comes next. They chose eradication over coexistence. They chose destruction over compassion.

While some may see this as a courtroom victory for the Board, I am infinitely prouder to be the attorney who stood up to protect these helpless animals than to be associated with the decision to destroy them.

The Madison and Huntsville community will remember exactly who stood up to protect their local wildlife—and exactly who decided they had to go. Thank you to everyone who supported us. The fight for a more compassionate community doesn't end here.

As this process moves forward, we are hoping to secure video footage of the eradication itself. The public deserves to see exactly what this decision looks like in practice, and we fully intend to share it openly so everyone can truly see the raw reality of what has been done here so that this injustice is brought completely into the light.
I want to thank my incredible clients, their neighbors and community who poured their hearts into trying to save the geese.

We didn't get the outcome they deserved, but we showed what many in the community truly value: compassion, protection, and life.

The Board's actions will now be their permanent legacy.

A judge dismissed an effort to stop the Canada goose culling plan in Heritage Plantation, allowing the USDA to proceed with eradication.

I’m in Chicago at the Animal Law Conference that is held by the Animal Legal Defense Fund and Lewis & Clark Law School. It’s my first time back since 2019. I got off track when COVID hit.

This conference has always been the premiere educational conference for lawyers, law students, and people in the nonprofit world who want to use the legal system to help animals. I’m so impressed with how the law has advanced so much since I last attended. The speakers today have been incredible.
