We would like to thank all of the applicants for our free trademark contest! Every last applicant is stellar and the reason why we do what we do! After a randomized selection, the winner of the contest is Nicole Small, CEO and founder of Inspired Journeys LLC !

Nicole Small, a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) is a native of Atlanta, Georgia has completed her Master of Arts in Counseling at Wake Forest University.

Nicole provides assistance and guidance in resolving personal, social, or psychological problems and difficulties through counseling. Moreover, she is able to facilitate culture and diversity lectures and specializes in crisis and su***de prevention and intervention programming as well as trauma-focused care. In addition, with regard to culturally competent practice, she specializes in racial and cultural identity development.

She has been Nationally Certified as a counselor (NCC) through the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). Nicole founded Inspired Journeys, for education professionals and community members to decrease the stigma surrounding mental health and increase the number of gatekeepers in the local community.

Happy International Writers’ Day!!! At Moore and Young Legal Solutions, we make sure to take care of our authors! Literary law focuses on contract review, publish and purchasing agreements, intellectual property issues and negotiations to ensure you get the best deal.

So how can we assist you? So many authors have literary agents but wonder if they even need a literary lawyer. The answer is yes! Literary agents serve as a liaison between you and the publishing houses and will pitch your manuscript. An agent will also help edit your manuscript and has established relationships with publishers and other big names in the industry. A lawyer can take it one step further by assisting with the legal nature of reviewing contracts, negotiations, understanding how royalties are assessed, keeping ownership of your intellectual property rights, and other considerations that may or not be beneficial to your specific needs. Also if copyright infringement or a disagreement on contract terms happen, your lawyer is there! A lawyer can also walk you through the process of getting your book out to the public. In the simplest explanation: Get your contract reviewed, let your lawyer discuss the terms with you and make suggestions, negotiations with the publisher will occur and voila!

You can have both an agent and an attorney. That might be a great choice if you need someone with connections in the industry and editing of your manuscript. Just remember, an agent cannot handle no legal matters and only a lawyer can assist with those needs. Some agents event suggest writer to get a lawyer as a best practice. Even if you self publish, you may want to get a lawyer if someone infringes on your work or if you are approached with a deal.

Today is National Intern Day which also coincides with the end of our inspiring and amazing intern’s time with us. This summer, we were elated to have our first resIdenSEE intern, Keyunna Harris! Keyunna excelled and went above and beyond in all of her assignments including learning the trademark process, drafting and reviewing contracts and more all while being a new mom! One huge component of our internship included personal and professional development. We grew so much together as a team and uplifted each other to build upon the foundation that Keyunna had established. Keyunna, you are a joy and we look forward to watching and aiding you as you grow in to an amazing lawyer!

Calling all members! Don’t come for Queen Bey! A celebration is in order for Beyoncé after winning her trademark battle for her daughter’s name!

Bey and Jay-Z were hoping to trademark Blue Ivy’s name from the moment she was born but they ran into an obstacle—-Veronica Morales and her company, Blue Ivy Events. Morales contended that they had no intention of ever using Blue Ivy’s name for the products but were merely registering it so others couldn’t use it and that people would confuse the two. She based her argument on comments Jay-Z made in a Vanity Fair article. In that article, Jay-Z stated that the reason he wanted to trademark her name was because he didn’t want anyone to benefit financially off his child’s name and use it for their liking because there should be boundaries. Bey’s team came they and said that Jay-Z’s comments were hearsay.

So how did this end? We thought you’d never ask! The ruling stated that there was not a likelihood of confusion because the general public would know the difference between an event company and Lil Miss Blue Ivy and Morales has no evidence that this would happen. The trademark board also agreed that Jay-Z’s comment were hearsay within hearsay and furthermore, Jay-Z isn’t even apart of the trademark application because this was done by Bey’s company BGK Trademark Holdings 💁🏾‍♀️
